I'd take the whole leg apart to paint the knee, but that's just me, you could paint it while it's still connected but it's entirely up to you. As for paint I'd stick with acrylic model paints. I would stay far away from anything enamel or oil based. Paints I use are Model Masters Acryl and Tamiya. Both are available at hobby stores and online and have a wide variety of colors.
When I first started doing customs I found a lot of useful tips in this thread: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...iscussion.html It's got tips on paint, disassembly, part swapping, dying, etc... check it out and I'm sure you'll find something to help you out... |

I actually managed to get an extra leg for Benchpress and HD so I was able to swap out the knees so both knees were painted black already. I didn't want to paint. You might ask around and someone might have an extra one so then you wouldn't have to paint.

-Non paint solution: Just get some nail polish remover (acetone) and depaint. Both on Heavy Duty and bench Press the black kneepad is green plastic painted black. Caefully use a drop of acetone or the like to depaint (use a q-tip). If you have doubts, check my sig for tips.
-Paint solution: If you want to try painting anyways, Heavy Duty green can be achieved by mixing yellow with a drop of black (yeah, no green at all). There's not an excat amount, just try and compare with the fig. For Bench Press i got similar green called Pine Green, it matches pretty well. -Kitbash solution: as Nighthawk said, get en extra knee and change them.

Yeah, I did the non-paint solution on one before as well and it works. Just don't use too much acetone. I used this method to get rid of the red stripes on Vipers legs too as well as the tatoo on Monkeywrench for my Mercer custom.
You can see that you can't even really tell where it was removed from the arm. I actually had to go to Yojoe.com to see which arm the tattoo was on before posting those pics.
