Hey guys, haven't had a chance to partake in awhile.
I'm primarily a miniature painter (Warhammer, Battletech, et al). So I have a large collection of Army Painter, Vallejo, Citadel, etc. But I'm getting dubious results getting acrylics to stay on action figures when... (there is no word better than "playing" is there? LoL), posing / setting them up. Someone, who I will credit when I get a chance, said that Enamel will damage the plastic, (on classified figures specifically). Whats your preference for keeping paint on a surface? Primer beneath and clear coat above? Scuff the surface somehow? Any brands serving better for this purpose? Thanks for your time. |

I probably have similar experience to you in terms of what I paint and what paints I use (primarily GW and Vallejo). I haven't found anything that is foolproof against joint rub. I (and others here) have had some success with trimming down the joints, as in taking off a sliver of the circular parts of joints, through which the pegs go. I know Mecha paints was touted initially as being good at avoiding paint rub, but I believe when it came out, some of the customizers here used it and said it was still prone to rub.

I haven't painted a ton of my figures and don't move them a ton, but for the ones I have done washing the figure with dish soap letting it fully dry and using Vallejo paints has worked for me. I also usually do a few coats.

I'm no help here. I'm still using what I have left of the discontinued Testors Model Masters Acrylic. If you can find any for sale on ebay or something, it's always seemed like the best option.
I've asked on here where I should turn after my Model Masters supply runs out, but no one was really able to come up with another paint as a true replacement for it. |

Testor model masters acrylic was my go to, but alas it has been discontinued. Tamiya is my second choice.

Has anyone tried Vallejo game color paints? They are supposed to stick to plastic better than regular vallejo paints. Ive had alot of problems with regular vallejo not sticking. Not joint rub as i dont paint joints. Its been really frustraiting

Citadel and Tamiya. Citadel Shade is one of my favorite paints on the planet. If applied to a painted surface it retreats from high points and flows into crevices. It adds a lot of definition with little effort. I LOVE Tamiya clears for glassy and shiny surfaces.

I'm coming from Model Masters, as well, and am just not a fan of Vallejo, though I haven't gotten into Game Color specifically. I would actually rank Tamiya as the most comparable to Testors in terms of application, adhesion, and durability, but Citadel isn't that far behind, but does have a fantastic color selection.
