SO does anyone know how to get rid of gloss without mixing the color down? like the color is perfect so I don't wanna change it. But its super shiny and doesn't look good in a camo pattern lol. Is there like a cover up of some kind that leaves the color but mutes the gloss? IDK just a shot in the dark and figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
I use testors model masters acrylics

If I'm understanding what you need correctly, Testors Dullcote / clear coat will help a lot.
Just spray it on after it's dry. https://www.amazon.com/Testors-Spray...ag=googhydr-20

Yup. Even rustoleum or krylon will work.

I use Vallejo matte varnish over Testors Model Master and it works nicely at dulling the gloss.

I also use this when I want to leave some or most of a figure / ship glossy.

I've read (but never tried it) that adding diatomaceous earth to glossy paint dulls it, but that has always been in the context of interior house paint. It might be worth looking into though.

thanks for all the info guys!
...And now I have a second question. I got a plastic cast piece that I'm trying to paint but after it dries, the paint just keeps flaking off. I'm sure there's something out there on the market to prevent this. Anyone have any suggestions?

If so, and you're still having issues, you can primer the part before painting and/or lightly sand the surface with some high-grit sandpaper (200 grit or higher) to give the coating something to hold onto.

Are you painting on Shapeways plastic by any chance? The High Detail plastic?
If so, I could never get Testors paints to dry on it without baking the plastic in the sun for a while beforehand (just washing was not enough). This problem completely went away when I switched to Tamiya primers and Vallejo/Citadel paints.
