Not too long ago i decided to make a mold, the only problem was I barley had any Idea on what I was was doing. I checked out the guides on joecustoms, and a few other places but the details were vague when it came to the casting part. So when I gave it a try I tore the mold apart because of the lack of mold release, but also I couldn't put the two halves together to form the part. I heard that using vasoline is a good way to keep the plastic from sticking to the mold, but I don't know how to properly fill the mold with the casting resin. The plastic I had; had three minute curing time (i'm not sure if that's the probllem). Since I kinda don't have a very good idea of what I'm doing, some in depth details would be cool. If anyone could give me some tips on casting It would be great.

What material did you use to make the mold? It sounds like Alumilite is what you used to make the cast, and I've never had a problem with it. Was the mold made from a flexible material?

It was a flexible rubber mold and I want to say I used the brand smooth-on for both the mold and resin. I'd show a picture of what the package looked like but I don't know how to post more pictures with deleting them from my previous posts.

Don't worry about it, I'm familiar with Smooth-on. I've never been fond of their RTV rubber, or Alumilite's for that matter. I use Silicone from Silicone Inc., G.I. 1000 for making molds. I have molds from over five years ago that I have still been able to pull casts from, though they are starting to get some damage. You can buy directly from them on their website.

Thanks. Also how would I properly pour the resin in the mold so I get the proper amount in without putting in too much or too little?

Did you make fill holes into the mold? Holes that you can pour your casting material in to the mold while it is closed?
It might help to detail what you are doing, part being replicated, type of mold (one part or two part) things like that. It could help in helping you.

It was a two part mold. I'm pretty sure my mistake was I didn't make holes in the top. I was casting some joe bodies, heads, and guns. Also how would I get the resin in the hole.
