I found a stockpile of fARAH figures tucked away somewhere in my house. I finally remembered where they came from. The problem with them is a great deal of them have had some "custom" paint apps. They are all very bad and seem heavily coated with the stuff.
It looks like some old enamel paint for models, the kind you could have bought at walmart. So I have a series of questions regarding this issue: 1) What is the best/safest (for the figure...my life is crap) to remove the excess paint? 2) Is there any chance the original paint is preserved underneath? 3) Does the fact that one of these figures is Payload v.1.0, hurt your soul? 4) If the original paint is preserved, the best method for that? 5) The accessories are paint too. I know they are a different type of plastic will the same method work? Thanks. Based on what I can do. there may be a lot of custom fodder going up in the B/S/T

Soak them in some Super Clean. Take them apart first and remove all of the metal and the rubber O-rings. I believe the metal would make out okay, but the rubber might dissolve or melt. Get a plastic container with a screw on lid to soak your parts in. This container can never be used for anything else again and should be marked POISON.
It may not remove all of the paint, but it will try, and this means it will take off the original paint as well. Super Clean is available at Walmart in the automotive section, formerly known as Castrol Super Clean. CAUTION: THIS STUFF IS CAUSTIC. IT WILL IRRITATE OR EVEN CHEMICALLY BURN SKIN AND DO THE SAME TO MUCOUS MEMBRANES. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES, HANDLE IT OUTSIDE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. WEAR EYE PROTECTION, IT WILL MESS THEM UP IF IT SPLASHES. WEAR GLOVES TOO, PREFERABLY NEOPRENE. Last edited by freakintiger; 04-20-2011 at 08:20 PM.. |

It'll clean the fig without taking away paint (logos or light paint might get erased :S ). Use a q-tip. Maybe even something simple as letting the parts (disassembled, and no screws) on hot water several times. For example, boil water, dip the pieces, and let them ther a day. Next day, boil more water and dip them again (after checking the paint excess). Maybe some sort of soap or the like dissolved in the water. Use a thoothbrush or some sort of oft brush. Sounds stupid, but enamels can be cleaned with this.

Clear pics would help to identify that paint.

I'll get some pictures of this mess up. My wife told me HELL NO when I tried to put the super clean in the cart. Well after I told her what it was for and why I was looking for a containter with a screw on lid. (living in an apartment with children sucks sometimes.)
