It was the 25th anniversary line of GI Joe which brought me back into collecting action figures again and would eventually give birth to my ongoing custom project "The Best of the 80s". I've gradually over time tried to modify the 25th figures to my satisfaction, replace them with later releases in the 50th or retro line or just make a custom myself if we never got the figure or I thought it wasn't quite what I wanted. What I've done in no way compares to the masterclass that HissHissFangFan has done in his threads as he pours over every detail and is definitely worth your time to check out if you haven't.
I've grouped them together by year or years for the most part. I'll be adding individual pictures of the customs or trying to list what I modified on the figures. At some point I'll try and add pictures of the vehicles as well. 82 ![]() 83 ![]() 84 ![]() 85 ![]() 86 ![]() 87 ![]() 88 with Countdown from 89 ![]() Slaughter and his Renegades ![]() Battle Force 2000 ![]() Cobra High Command 83-85 (named characters) ![]() Cobra 86-87 ![]() Dreadnoks ![]() Cobra Troopers ![]() Cobra La ![]()

Ahhhh... this is a superb collection. Doing year groups shots was great! I particularly like 85/86/87... Looking through all the customized goodness, I have to say, I favor Blizzard at the top, finally getting to see how he turned out! AWESOME!

Funny you should say that. I have the parts to make that custom along with a ME motor viper on my desk. They will be the next two Joes added to the collection and then I'll retake the photos.

You have filled out your 82’-87’ Joe collection almost to the brim. While there is a face or two not yet in the photos, I gotta add that NO ONE WE KNOW has so completely rounded out their modern Joe collection as well as you have WITH THE REST OF THE EIGHTIES ! ! ! I’m glad to see you return to GI Joe. I’ve got some favorites among the customs you’ve shown - year ‘88 is standing out as having the most customized goodness at the moment but there’s a lot to take in. Those classified heads look surprisingly good on the 25th bodies, too.

I honestly was unaware that there was another version of Doc in the 25th line. I got this one way back when he was a mail away offer at the beginning of the 25th line. Those wrist cuts are terrible. I replaced the lower arms on Duke and Falcon to get rid of them.
