Fought this impulse from the moment I opened the figure, then gave up.
Put some gradient on Destro's ruby... now I kinda want some 'Ard coat or similar gloss finish for it. Two things I'm displeased with; blacklining the chain made it look dirty, and I wish I hadn't tried to "fix" the exposed skin on his chest. I've never painted that much flat surface a skin tone before, usually paint 28mm minis, my tone is all off, and the necklace is scratching it off.... might should have used enamel or something. Either way, getting past the "don't mess them up." phase and moving into "Neh, these are my toys, imma modify 'em" phase has been much fun. EDIT: Lousy mini photographers anon. called, they want me to come see them. Last edited by juxstapo; 07-28-2021 at 04:44 PM.. |

It WILL self level. 2. Second thin coat. At this point you'll notice the filing in of voids. Let it dry for 24 hours. It WILL self level. 3. Third thin coat. Now we're talkin! Lookin blingy. Let it dry for 24 hours. 4. You may or may not need a fourth coat. You'll know if you do. I use this method to create realistic scope lenses. It works well. Should make for a stellar ruby. The important thing to remember is this; Resist the overwhelming desire to make more than one pass. It dries rather quickly and you'll screw it up (Trust me).

It doesn't look bad - just hit the chain up again with a bright gold on top and the darker sections will show through but be less obvious. But don't use enamels on soft plastic or it will become tacky and never dry - it eats the plastic (at least on small figures it does)

But...Destro is wears an orange shirt.
I'm kidding man - I like the idea of adding some bling. |

I may try it out on my Destro. Here's the Tamiya Clear Red.
https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Acryli.../dp/B00TT856HG Tamiya makes blue, green, red, yellow, black, and straight clear. They are incredible and have so many uses. They feel like hard plastic once dry. But you MUST let them dry a full 24 hours between coats. They chemically cure and shrink which assists in leveling. The untinted clear can be used to as a high gloss on detail areas to add a lot of saturation and make details pop. I used the clear black to hook up Commando SE's goggles. Made a huge difference.
