Oh my, I'm alive. And a college graduate. And also, I've finished up a few projects I haven't touched in over a year, almost 2. Here's a few I photographed, others are waiting on my desk, and I have a few ongoing projects I may or may not finish soon. I'm also moving in a couple weeks, so that will probably keep me from being frequent with posting here, but I'll try and post something here or there.
First up, here's Destro, very simple recipe. I always liked to imagine his collar was this big plus thing so I sculpted it that way, and made it closed to hide the lack of a bare chest. And what's Destro without the Baroness? I went with a pretty battle-ready look for her, since I like the armor aspect of her jumpsuit and didn't want her to have just the unadorned zip-up look. Also, I really liked those purple highlights from the earlier Classified art, so I went for that. I've also really started appreciating Baroness's conflicting loyalties between the man she loves and the man she wants to follow to a new future. I used to just consider her wholly loyal to Destro, but I think she's a lot more interesting if she's torn about who to side with. |

And here we have my Cobra Motorpool getting some love.
First up, Vypra, who commands the Motor-Vipers in my headcanon, in addition to being one of the Commander's most loyal devotees. Part of me feels like her design's a bit plain, and could use some kind of vest slapped over it, but I also vibe with the jumpsuit with a big silver Cobra on it (plus, she was based on Jinx, so the og was pretty plain). And then there's my Motor-Vipers. The design is very close to Hit & Run's (in fact, I put them together around the same time as him, but have had them just kinda sitting in the bin for a while), but I liked the old Chimera-ops paint job and wanted to use it to make the Motor-Vipers look more visually interesting and save some blue paint on the boots/forearm guards, etc. Unfortunately, those bodies are gone, so either my Cobra drivers will be majority-female going forward, or I might have to hit people with spare ones up. Oh well. Lastly, a Cobra Sidewinder, per the kit on Toyhax. I've wanted to do one of these for a while, and since I'd never had an AWE Striker before, I picked up two back when Retro came out. Sprayed this thing up and stickered it ages ago. Funny thing I found is, it's the same mold from 1985; when I was disassembling it, one of the interior bits is still stamped with "Hasbro 1985, Pawtucket, RI" and all that lol. The female Motor-Viper in there has an Oshun head, while the male one with Vypra has a Trooper head with a brown goatee. I decided to use some heads I otherwise wouldn't have a use for when making these guys to change things up and not just make every Cobra trooper a masked guy/chick. |

Thanks guys!
So, to get back into posting some of my recent stuff, since I took some pics earlier. First up is the commander of my Range-Viper corps, Skullbuster...or should I say Evy? I noticed the similar color schemes and decided to make them the same character, so now the survivalist from Walnut, CA and childhood sweetheart of Ambush (who knows if I'll ever make him) is the one leading some of the meanest Vipers Cobra has to offer. I think the thing I'm most proud of with this one is the hand-painted pattern on the mask. And as an aside, I really hope the Ambush-Ops bodies come back, so I don't have to redesign my Range-Viper to make more. Next up is Puppetmaster, Cobra's mercenary handler and that one notable-looking gentleman from one panel of the first Marvel issue. Credit for the name and job go to Captain Hydra, and credit for the race lift I gave him goes to me only having a tan Brynner head in my spare parts bin (I made this one mostly because the only thing I had to buy was the body, so it tacked very little onto the price of the order). And next is the very first Marauder figure I ever put together. There are a few other early customs (Munitia, an unfinished Major Bludd, etc.) that I haven't shown off, but I bought these parts to test the product out years ago, and because I really liked the concept of Crimson Asp, but didn't like the figure (or the price). Most recently, I added the eyepatch and scarring to her face. That said, I have tweaked around with her backstory in my head pretty extensively, so I figure I'll throw that in here: A native of Crossmaglen, Northern Ireland, the woman who would become known as Crimson Asp initially joined the Official Irish Republican Army in the wake of Bloody Sunday in 1972, at the age of 16, but the ceasefire they declared at the end of the year motivated her to leave and join the Provisional IRA. She worked as a bombmaker in the South Armagh Brigade until 1983, when a botched assassination attempt left her with the right half of her face permanently scarred and led to her arrest. She escaped custody on the way to an H-block, and proceeded to singlehandedly assassinate a British MP. She has since sold her services to sympathetic groups like the PLO, ETA, and FARC while evading an international manhunt. In the process, she ended up meeting and occasionally working with Firefly, who referred her to Cobra, a larger organization that has slowly been infiltrating and coopting her regular employers. |
