this is some really cool sh!t.
Personally speaking, I think part of how you can make the characters look different when the originals used the same bodies is to vary the gear and the MTF heads you're using for each. IE to make Beaver, Stakeout and Quickfire look different, give one a "Nigel" head, one a "Hank" and one a "Trooper" or "Vanguard" head. It's the plan I have for making my characters look slightly different when I can get the parts. Just my tuppence worth. |

Do you find that super-gluing back the torsos after changing out the arms works well? I hesitant to crack open the torsos cuz I worry the ball joint will no longer be tight. Does the figure stay tight after re-gluing?

Thanks for all the kind words, I started the project just to make Action Force (even though the first non original character I made with MTF parts was Outback) but I have expanded it into making most of the military characters I loved as a kid out of MTF parts. These days using Marauders to customise seems to be the main part if my hobby.

It is from a 2003 Spy Troops Depth Charge and it was a perfect colour match to the HACKS Blank torso I used so I did not even have to paint either part. Figures from that era are cheap to pick up (I got that figure, including shipping, for about what I would spend on a custom cast head without shipping) and because they are made from the softer plastic are easy to adapt to fit the modern figures (see my comment above about needing more heads). Swapping the arms on the Marauder figures is easy to do (much more so than the modern GI Joe figures). I have never had a problem with the joint no longer being tight after regluing, and I don't tend to use too much glue, a small dab at the base of the neck and the two bottom corners to avoid the arm holes and the cavity where the ball from the waist is going to go. I suppose as long as you didn't distort the figure when opening it up it will go back together nicely. I always put the torso in hot water for about a minute, and then stick a pair of needle nose pliers into the cavity where the waist ball goes and lever apart. They almost always come apart cleanly (the Trooper figures are easier than the new figures to separate). Make sure you apply pressure to the two torso sections whilst the glue is drying and do not be in too much of a hurry the attach the waist after gluing, give it a bit of time to make sure the two torso sections have thoroughly bonded. Lastly in the Action Force category, the Red Shadows
Baron Ironblood. As I have mentioned before the vintage Action Force hats fit perfectly on the MTF heads (even the eyes line up) so this solved the problem of the helmet. The trooper torso has a kind of V pattern to the front so I decided to use this in the Baron's design. I just had to sand off the zip and pockets from the torso and the pocket and mounting port on the leg Last edited by AF80sFAN; 05-06-2020 at 11:33 AM.. |

Back Major. For some reason I have always incorporated a trenchcoat into every Black Major custom I have ever done.

Red Shadows. I think it is no secret that Marauders had the Red Shadows in mind when they made this red German soldier. I gave him the pouches, stick grenades and gas mask canister to replicate the original figure and vintage heads. I decided to go with a logo on the arm rather than paint the design because I wasn't sure how it would look (see next post). I made a version with the plain and the painted harness to see how they would compare (I decided to use the painted for future figures)

Red Shadow Officer. Not a vintage character but if cobra can have lots of generic officers with only slight differences then so could the Red Shadows. I gave him a bit more gear, a few more paint applications including painting the shoulders (which I do not like, didn't think I would which is why I didn't do it for the Red Shadows) and a cast head to match Red Vulture (see next post who I assume would be an officer)

Red Vulture. I didn't want Red Vulture to look like just another Red Shadow so I created a whole new look for him, a very divisive choice as he has no real links to the original
