I did this a few months back and finally got around to posting it. I know there were a handful of Tankers (myself included)who were wondering if an 85 barbecue helmet dremeled out would fit over a modern head. Well here are my results: (good and bad news)
IF you use a smaller 25th head (I picked one that I thought resembled him from the cartoon)and do a good job getting really close to the inside of the walls of the helmet, the good news is that it does fit! The bad news is the helmet isn't long enough so his chin and bottom of his head stick out at the bottom of the helmet. To fix this I molded some green stuff at the bottom of the helmet to extend it then I of course painted it to match. I have mixed feelings about how this looks (GIVE ME ALL YOUR OPINIONS!) so I also got a 2nd 85 Barbecue head and just dremeled a neck hole out to use this as a head instead of the removable helmet. Its bigger than the 25th head and looks more fitting/ realistic. I also gave him Marauder hands so he has more articulation and can actually hold a rifle. Again, I have mixed feeling about how this looks so feel free to give me your feedback! Next below is with just an 85 head on, NOT hollowed out so no removable helmet. comfortable day off at the office.........

Maybe another coat of silver paint as it looks a bit uneven, otherwise the extended helmet looks good to me.

I think the extension looks good, as well, and also believe strongly in removable helmets.

I’m sorry man, but I think the unmasked head and removable helmet looks pretty bad. The 85 head is sweet tho.
On the other hand, that unmasked airtight looks fantastic! |

My issue w/the unmasked head is that I think of Barbecue as having wavy/almost curly hair. So that's really on me.
That aside, this is good work. Hasbro dropped the ball on the pop-off heads. So many characters should have had unmasked heads included automatically. Tripwire, Barbecue, Destro (since they already showed his entire head in the Hall of Fame figure), Storm Shadow, and many others. Instead Beachhead and Cobra Commander got the alternate heads. |

I voted for 85 head, but I think it depends how you want to display him. If you are displaying helmet off, the extended helmet looks awesome. I don't like it as much on(still looks good, just not as good in comparison to the 85 head as is.
The 85 head looks really great as is, or for diorama/action posing looks more natural. I think the answer to this one is how important removable helmets are to you. I always liked them, but proportionality/scale was more important to me, so non removable helmets never bugged me, but I do like the well executed removable ones. Either way nice job

I used those same two heads for my BBQ and Airtight customs. I agree that I don't like the head on BBQ, but that was the only head I was able to find with red hair that fit the helmet I had.
However, I love the extended helmet. If I ever decide to just do that and swap head and helmet back and forth, I'd be tempted to change out the head on mine.

Anyways what head did you use for your Barbecue removable helmet??? It looks more like the 25th version than the 85 version, but I cant tell for sure. Also, what head did you use for Airtight?? It works well but definitely doesn't look like the one I used. Unless you altered it?
