Okay...so...have we established that my very worst enemy is myself? We have? Good. SO...after only a day, I felt I needed to update my Zartan. Now, Zartan is, for a variety of reasons, my favorite G.I. Joe character...Joe or Cobra. I had always refrained from doing a Marauders version of him as:
1.) I was too scared to splice the BFS and MTF torsos 2.) I just don’t like a lot of the hoods made for 1:18 scale Anyhoo...long story short (too late!) I finally fixed up a composite torso and, as expected, it’s a hot mess. I was able to hide the join with a black MTF Tac Vest and some spiky chain belt that I found in my daughter’s toy bin and, Viola Davis!, I got a close approximation of a V1 Zartan. But I wasn’t happy with it. And as I took pictures of the figure, I started liking it less and less. I felt I had to revisit the figure. I must say that I’m still not 100% sold on the final product, but I do feel a lot better about the changes. 1.) I felt that the torso needs to be less covered. The tac vest is fine, but it’s basically a box...and those BFS buck torsos are superbly sculpted. It’d just be a shame to cover all that up. I decided to shrink the covered area just a bit by using that Steady Cam/Chest Armor combo. 2.) Turns out the “LOL Girls” punk rock pieces just don’t look that great on Zartan. They would look phenomenal on some of the other Dreadnoks. But Zartan is more streamlined than the other guys. So, I took off the chained belt and replaced it with the more traditional MTF Web Belt. Covers up the torso join well enough by itself. 3.) It’s just not a V1 Zartan without his shoulder/arm armor. I really wanted him to wear the armor, but I also really wanted that arm armor to be removable. I took the LOL wristbands and slid them up to the bicep and then super-glued the armor to the wristbands. Now the armor can slide off and Zartan can take you to the gun show whenever he wants. 4.) The hood is still awkward and the orange Mohawk is a little out of place but, for now, I’ll keep them as-is. So...here is Zartan V1 2.0:

The changes (shoulder/arm armor/chest plate) on Zartan bring out the true character although I must admit I liked those punk rock pieces as belt for Dreadnoks carry those type of accessories remarkably well. So very creative of you on that one.
I think he looks badass and I'll be copying this recipe if you don't mind. It's nice to see new posts from you, keep them coming!! |

Great solution for the shoulder armor! Excellent assist by your daughter.
Did an awesome job piecing together all of his armored bits to give him that Zartan feel. Love that you went V1 look for his uniform with the Ninja Force style head, gives him multiple fun display options and I’m really liking the orange Mohawk on classic costume look. Great paint job as always, really liking the color you got for the pants.

While we’re on the topic of updating...
So, back in the day, when I first started my Joerauder project, I had wanted to do a V1 Scarlett. I waited for the Red “long-haired”Athena head (not the French Braid head, mind you) to come back onto the website FOR...EV...ER! Needless to say it never showed back up, so I bit-the-bullet and went for the next best option which was the Red “short-haired” Athena head (this was way before I had the cajones to paint my figures). Scarlett came out “okay”, but since I used the standard “Security-Ops” Valkyrie, there was a lot of black where there should have been beige Now that I’m much more confident in my paint-strokes, I figured I’d update my V1 Scarlett. 1.) Gone is the Valkyrie leg armor that was covering up the black boots (I don’t like the Valkyrie leg armor much anyway as it takes away all the shape of the leg) 2.) Gone are most of the black accents. Tried to make her a LITTLE more vintage-authentic 3.) The old head has been replaced with an updated head with more vintage-appropriate hair color and length. 4.) Oh! ...and I did something with Scarlett that I should probably do with 99% of my other Joerauders...look closely...I painted her neck flesh-colored. SCARLETT (V1.5) 2.0
