I'm planning to attend NYCC with my wife this year but I've never been to any large conventions, only a small horror convention (Scare-A-Cuse) in Syracuse NY. I guess I'd just like to know what to expect, are there typically any Joes there for sale? If so how are the prices? I'd like to come home with a few "treasures" for myself and my kids lol. Any tips as far as travel, lodging, etc? Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Hey Boa,
You should expect a huge crowd and lots of waiting in line! Seriously it is a blast but they oversell the tickets for the event in my opinion. Friday was the best day last year as I got to really walk around and see things, Sat and Sun were great too, more panels and appearances, but way more people and much harder to get around. The con is definitely worth attending. I stayed with some family in Brooklyn, if you do not have that option I would just check some travel sites for a Hotel, I am guessing you are wthin driving distance. I managed to purchase a few vintage Joes and some non Joe items, prices are typical con prices (10-15% higher than retail) but most of the vendors are willing to haggle a bit, especially on Sunday! Let me know if you have any specific questions that I may be able to answer.

A lot of hotels in Jersey will have shuttles than run to the city, prices are usually cheaper. Get in line early, if doors open at 10 get there at 9. And take your time and enjoy it. after they put out the schedule of events pick one or two must do things a day otherwise you will be running from place to place and miss the spectacle. See you there.

I went last year for the first time and it was definitely crowded. We stayed in a hotel in Secaucus NJ. There's a lot of hotels in a town center area and they all have bus stops out front that take you right into the city for somewhere around $7-$8 round trip. I'd definitely recommend prebuying your tickets because they do sell out beforehand. And the line is insane, on Saturday morning it wrapped around the entire convention center and took at least a half hour after the con started to get in.

The best part of NYCC is getting your shit signed by all the big names in comics. It's my goal to get Stan Lee to get my Spidey and Marvel poster signed by before he dies. If you can deal with big ass crowds, fan boys playing into the nerdy socially inept stereotype, and dudes not having those elusive of Special Missions 24 and 27.

Thanks guys! Great advice and insight, I really appreciate it. Any idea how long I'm gonna have to stand in line to get autographs? Out of who's attending so far I'd like to get autographs from Adam West, Burt Ward, Robert Kirkman, and Christopher Lloyd. I mean I'll take what I can get, but if I can get them all that would amazing lol.

Hasbro wont be there like they were last year so don't expect anything.
Even when they were there last year there was no one on their line when I went. I just walked right up and got everything I wanted. That's the total opposite compared to SDCC. The line to get in to the Center was crazy, but that was only because we got there early and it wasn't open yet. The lines to get autographs were also long, so I passed on them. Though this year Adam West, Burt Ward, and Christopher Lloyd is going to be there so I might wait to meet them. I spent most of my time going through the vendor isles last year, so I will probably do that again. On one hand you can find some great deals, but on the other hand you'll find inflated eBay type priced items as well. Be sure to look around before making a purchase, because the prices from one vendor to another can be like night and day. For instance I found a one vendor selling DCUC figures for $20 or more a piece, and then I found another vendor selling the same ones at $5 a piece. They were all new in un-opened packages. All in all I had a great time there, though from what other's have told me it's nothing like SDCC. The crowds are a lot smaller and much more laid back.

Why do you say Hasbro won't be there this year? That's kind of disappointing... |

They've stated at SDCC that they won't be back at NYCC for 2012, or possibly ever again since they only want to go to one convention per year.
