I myself no longer buy floppies and have pretty much switched to TPBs, but as it relates to the question- why pay the same cost for a digital file that I don't really own or control? Seems odd to me. If the cost was less, maybe it's a different conversation.
Also, can get a digital file signed at a Con, although I suspect NFTs will put an end to that.

I've posted this before, but here is why people are comforted by "book" scent:
And, I keep pics like this on my phone so I don't buy duplicates or skip ahead if I'm in a brick & mortar and want to advance my reading skills: It's tidier than keeping a worn slip of paper in my wallet that lists which Witchblade I read last, which Sojourn issue I'm missing, which ARAH or ARAH Classic I need next...and I'm not ashamed of my spreadsheet library. |

I never thought I'd get back into the medium at all, TBH- the above was pretty soul crushing. My somewhat recent re-connection with Legends has me heavily considering going the TPB route though. I'd be able to actually read them without feeling like I was handling priceless artifacts, for starters.

I would buy normal comics, but the glare from the new shiny paper and ink means there is always a white spot in the middle of the page in a well lighted room. I'm not sure when this change occurred but it's in everything now. It's a really uncomfortable experience. I grew up with the old 4-color stuff on less-durable paper stock and it was a much easier read.
I don't like the TPBs either because the binding is too tight compared to a regular comic, and it ruins full spreads. I have a 12.9" iPad and a Comixology subscription for $5.99. I can read them in the dark or in a lighted room and it makes no difference. I'd probably collect something new if they changed the paper stock, but as it is, the iPad is the best solution IMO. This is probably another reason manga is so popular, lots of it is still black and white and not painful to read because of the matte pages on non-bright-white stock. Edit: I should add I do have a long box of some Marvel stuff, mostly Deadpool, but every time I try to get back into it that paper stock just ruins it for me. I sit down at the dining room table and try to read it, and I get a reflection of the lighting fixture. Disclaimer: I don't wear glasses or contacts either. I will say, that I prefer physical books/comics to digital. But, much like sex, sometimes digital is easier and more convenient.

Without physical, there is no more comics. Not in my world as well as many others.
