I must say that Scarlett looks different somehow. Shin-Gouki: I'm ok for the most part, however this tool playing Ripcord is just WRONG!
That looks nothing like a talentless has-been In Living Color reject to me Stalker82: props to you for making that new and IMPROVED poster of Ripcord from the movie. as a side night, my friend who went to sdcc saw pictures from the Resolute cartoon said that Ripcord is black as well in it. I pray that he was drunk when he saw it...
and my girlfriend is disappointed in the Baroness poster....HEAVILY disappointed.
YO JOE! Crimson Rage: I think Wayans certainly looks the part. He may well be a surprise and act the part too!
Nick Fury becoming black didn't do "The Ultimates" an ounce of harm, so I don't see why this is different. Shin-Gouki: Look at the real Ripcord and look at him and tell me he "looks the part" Phalsis: Don't everyone jump on the wagon and automatically think this movie will suck! Transformers didn't suck, did pretty well from what I remember and the sequal is next year. Why is that you fans of something automatically believe that if Hollywood makes a movie of something that it will suck?
Iron Man didn't suck
New Hulk didn't suck
Both Batman movies didn't suck
So far the comic book movies are batting a thousand. Sure there have been one or two that could have been better. But please calm down a little. And as for the actors, isn't everyone in Hollywood some sort of tool? They are actors after all.
Be happy that the franchise is popular enough that they are going to do a movie! That's what everyone has always wanted sin't it?
I hear about this kind of thing in my shop every time one of these comic movies come out.
So relax and enjoy something for once and remember it's just a movie.
YO JOE!
Phalsis Shin-Gouki: I am not saying it will suck. Aside from the design ascetic I liked TF. However casting this fool as Ripcord is a joke. I also think that the "Super Suits are a joke. However I am reserving judgment until I see the movie. Imperial_Serpentor: Quote:

I must say that Scarlett looks different somehow. | I just think it's the black and white, it's hard to think of her as "Scarlett" if you can't see she has red hair. RockinHard: Yeah, we'll probably never get a 'classic' Ripcord because they don't want people to look past Marlon Wayans-esque as the new Ripcord. Hate that. Crimson Rage: Quote:

The Joe movie is not set in the 80's, has a smaller roster and a 'modern' (for want of a better word) origin for Cobra. It isn't following the comic or cartoon. Ergo it's a re-imagining and I find such changes okay as long as he looks, sounds & acts like a professional soldier. delta: Said it before, but Ripcord being African American dosen't bother me. Ripcord being Marlon Wayans dose. Shin-Gouki: Quote:

Ergo it's a re-imagining and I find such changes okay as long as he looks, sounds & acts like a professional soldier. | Not all fans liked the changes just as some fans, myself included, hated the TF movie. I saw it at the theater once and that was enough to turn me off of the line completely. I won't even spend money on the classic figures anymore because of the crap they turned out in that movie. So you can't make generalizations that "the fans" liked it when some fans actually don't like changes like these. GGPiKE: I'm pretty comfortable with Ripcord being black. Although there is a special place in my heart for the original, I have enough confidence in Wayans (per his role in Requiem For A Dream, specifically referenced by Paramount in why they chose him) to be fine with decision. Just because something changes doesn't mean "deth of teh line!" . . . though for some of you, it apparently does. Those of you that have never seen Requiem For A Dream and are basing your disapproval off of whatever not so hot role he's played. That's fine, totally valid. But don't pass total judgment until you see the films where they call on him to actually use his acting talent over his comedy talent. Wylde Weezle: Wayans as Ripcord doesn't bother me; if the dude wants to move away from comedy and into action movies more power to him. Worked for Bruce Willis.
As for being Ripcord, well that character isn't iconic enough for me to care about the changes. I had a way tougher time with custom flames Optimus Prime.
And as for the posters, I think they're looking good.
Dunno if the Baroness had lassic (sp?) and is wearing shooting eyewear or if those are prescription but I think she looks great. i<3COBRALA: flat out i have no hope for this film. reject Xmen costumes BLAH! they are not getting my 8 bucks but they will get my 2 or 3 hour DL time slim19722: I think Wayans looks cool as Ripcord and can't wait to see him in action. Only thing is like others have said, he shoulda been Stalker,as I don't care about the character Ripcord anyway. delta: Quote:

SIDE QUESTION: How many of you Wayans supporters would be happy if Peter Parker was played by Wesley Snipes?
or if Blade were a white guy? I was pissed when Terry from Spawn was suddenly WHITE in the movie! If a character is written a certain race, or sex...they should stay that way! its called "respect for the source material"
whats next? He-man is now a Asian? lol MLos1: I have strong feeling we're all going to be pleasantly surprised by his performance. Imperial_Serpentor: Quote:

whats next? He-man is now a Asian? lol | It all depends, like the guy who played Kingpin in the Daredevil movie looked the role a lot more then the guy who played him in one of the old Incredible Hulk TV movies despite the former being black.
I don't think we'll see that exact same storyline in the movie, so don't worry there. Sometimes you can respect the source material while making tweaks and changes. Deckard: the only way we could be pleasantly surprised by marlon wayans is if he gets blown up before he says one word in this travesty. This is Sigma sux and literally, beyond character names and the name on the film, has no true ties to ANYTHING joe related, unless you count action force in the UK. Deckard: Quote:

whats next? He-man is now a Asian? lol | Amen brother! Wayans being Ripcord and not Stalker,Snakes-Eyes being French(and good thing Hama got the idiot producer to have SE not talk),Smiling Skull face Vipers,Stupid powersuits and the G.I.Joe team being a jazzed up U.N. force make this movie not a TRUE Joe movie. sn8ke3y3s: here here Phalsis, annd well said! The Fan Boys off the net have been ripping this film apart from day one. I was only pissed when they were talking about turning this film into a buddy movie like Tango and Cash, but with Duke and Action Man. But I have since calmed down when Hasbro had reassured me that it will be a film that fans and the new comers will love. AND I really got excited when I had heard Larry Hama was signed on as an adviser to the film. I wonder if they got the idea of making Ripcord African-American after seeing Jamie Foxx play a pilot in Stealth??? lol Shin-Gouki: The other thing I have an issue with is like other people have said Stalker should have had that slot, and WTF with using Heavy Duty over Roadblock? SportingViper: Quote:

Tracker: I got a good feel about the film despite Marlon Wayans being in the film. i know it just a poster but the look on his face is encouraging to me. NateR: Quote:

whats next? He-man is now a Asian? lol | Well, I think that's a silly comparison, because Ripcord was never a major player in the cartoon series. In fact, I can only remember seeing him in 3 or 4 episodes, even then those were bit roles. If they had cast Wayans to play Duke or Tyra Banks to play Scarlett, then your example would make sense. But, as it stands, Ripcord is just not nearly important enough to generate this much "cyber-outrage."
I actually didn't recognize Wayans at first in that image. So that gives me hope that his personality won't hijack the character too much. Imperial_Serpentor: Quote:

We still have Storm Shadow and Snake-eyes as sword brothers who trained under the Hard Master, we still have them being put on opposite sides of the Cobra/Joe War.
Right there I think we've got more linkage to the GI Joe lore then Bayformers did. I say give the movie a chance. Deckard: Quote:

Thus a strong indication this movie will be crap :> NateR: Don't you realize that any divergence from the "established canon" is an unforgivable offense?
But then of course, that begs the question of which "canon" are we talking about. The Sunbow cartoon? The DIC cartoon? The comic book? The action figure filecards? Because we all know how consistent all of those were in the 1980s. Deckard: Quote:

Joe was always driven by the characters and their origins and for them to make such drastic changes to them and plus throwing them in Sigma 6 (probably the worst incarnation of joe ever.) styled powersuits just screams that this movie will be as great as street fighter with van damme. I've only watched a couple of episodes of Sigma 6, but it's honestly not that bad. Very well animated if you like the anime styling (which I do). I would have loved that cartoon if I was a kid.
However, I'm still stoked that things are going in more of a classic direction with Resolute. Imperial_Serpentor: Quote:

Meanwhile Heavy Duty did appear in the DiC Cartoon, Devils Due comics and the CGI cartoons that preceded Sigma 6... so he didn't have to get his liking from Sigma 6. Maybe he just compared their file cards and liked Heavy Duty more? who knows.
Anyway I'd rank Sigma 6 above, the DiC series or Spy Troops (Beachhead shouldn't sound like a surfer dude!) and most definitely above the horrid DVD that came with the Ninja Battles set. Sigma 6 isn't all that bad in my opinion. Deckard: well i'd personally rather watch the DIC series over sigma sux anyday of the week. The designs were better, scarlett wasn't a hick, tunnel rat didn't look like a crack fiend and destro didnt look like he got inject with roids by canseco. And Extreme i would watch over sigma sux. Now talk about a retelling. Might as well call this new movie GI JOE EXTREME-ly lame. SportingViper: Quote:

Sigma 6 isn't all that bad in my opinion. | I already said "my bad" and I meant Sigma6 in general where Heavy Duty had way more exposure then in any other incarnation. SportingViper: And here is just one reason why Roadblock should have been in the movie:
In issue #69, while in an American embassy is being looted, Roadblock threatens a man who is intending to burn an American flag. Roadblock aims his machine gun at the man's head. When the threatened man points out how looters are stealing computers, Roadblock states that nobody died for a computer. The man backs down.
What's Heavy Duty's claim to fame? manic mailman: these posters look stupid NateR: Quote:

Now talk about a retelling. Might as well call this new movie GI JOE EXTREME-ly lame. | Well, so would I. I would rank the cartoons like so:
1. Sunbow, everything up to and including season 1
2. Sunbow, season 2 (Serpentor really hurt my interest in the series)
...
...
5. DIC "season 3"
...
...
...
...
...
50. Sigma 6
...
...
1,000,000. GI Joe Extreme
Expressing anything other than utter hatred of Sigma 6 hardly makes me a fan of the series. All I said was that it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Plus, the alleged "butchering" of certain characters wasn't anything new for Sigma 6. Sunbow did it's fair share of screwing up GI Joe characters (based on the info given in their filecards). Deckard: no but the overall designs of the sigma characters was just god awful. | All times are GMT -4. The time now is 08:55 PM. | |
