this is a great thread Sam! I think most of us reflect on those simpler times as part of our nostalgia driven hobby. I have a 14 yr old nephew that I've basically raised on joe since the 2000 stuff came back out and he's at the point now where he reminisces about Joe vs. Cobra Nunchuk and the 2000 Locust as his favorite joe toys of all time! The circle is now complete

Great thread. I actually do things like this often, my "hobby" of collecting has definately helped with my sanity. I actually keep a small rubbermaid container of my fave vintage Joes nearby for the reason you said...just to look at them and remember being in my room for hrs as these guys came together and fought their way out of impossible situations...and helped me escape some really crappy times.
I do this with other toy lines and have some stuff that I got from my grandparents as a kid that I'll just "mess with", notice the chipped paint or broken thumbs..all its war wounds, then put it back safely into retirement. Comic books too...I have comics from the 80's and 90's that as a kid I read and re-read over and over again...2 of my favorites a Fantastic 4 that had thing Vs Gray Hulk which crossed over to a Hulk comic...I remember getting these on vacation at the Jersey shore and reading them in my hotel room with my mom...sometimes I read them still, and they have that smell, the ink or whatever that hits you when you open the cover....that takes me back and helps me remember how lucky I am to have a mom that bought me these things ....anybody that says these things are just plastic and paper....just doesnt get it. To everyone that gets it? Youre not alone! Last edited by PitViper; 12-29-2009 at 12:44 PM.. |

I'm working from home, sitting next to my Joe collection on their newly installed shelves. Somehow it's not the Joes that take me back so much as the vehicles. My old Moray, 90% complete, is crewed by the 25th figures and my newly acquired Killer Whale, 90% complete, is waiting final clean up and to be put together. I remember playing with both of those so much. The Killer Whale was my favorite of all time. I would spend hours sitting at my desk in my room, listening to my boom box and playing with that Killer Whale.

I always do pull them out and just look at them or pose the loose ones on my days off. My daughter just can't understand why lol.

Outside, right now, the snow is softly falling. I am sitting here with my steaming warm cup of Coffee and a velvety smooth throw blanket draped over my lap. It is a picture perfect morning here in northern Ohio and since I am on vacation it is even better.
While reading the board I decided it would be fun to do a feel good thread. Yes, yet another feel good discussion. So with-out further ado I would like to ask this question. “Do you ever take your figures out and just look at them?” I do and it helps me to remember my childhood. I can take out my ARAH Scarlet figure and remember back when she and Baroness teamed up and took over both GI Joe and Cobra. They imprisoned any one who would dare to stop them and by the end of the day they where victorious. I loved dreaming up stuff like that as a child. In my universe the woman where in charge and the guys followed what they said. It is wonderful when I can sit back and relax while thinking about those days. The snow falling outside affords me the chance to sit back and recall my youth while I sip on my morning cup of coffee. So how about you, share your Joe verse ideals and story lines from your childhood here as well as your memories of your youth when times where simpler. Do you associate your figures with memories? That's a lovely scenario you've described, Samantha. Makes me reminiscent too. Memories of childhood play are what pulled me back into GI Joe. |

Well it's colder than a naked eskimo man's testicles here in PA today!
I'm just keepin the kids in the house where it's warm. And yeah I do sometimes drag stuff out to just look at it. Might go grab a handful of older comics today! |
