There is nothing like the feeling of opening up a carded figure. The sound of the ripping paper and the crinkle or the plastic bubble bring back so many wonderful moments. I guess it is the endorphin high that keeps me so addicted.

That sounds great. I am actually thinking about pulling out some of my older comics myself. I haven't read many of them in a long while and the snow outside with all the cold air makes me want to hibernate under a blanket with a good read.

I would set up piles of blankets on our couch to make "mountains" for my Joe/Cobra battles. I had a fondness for secondary Joes so guys like Airtight, Alpine, Crankcase, Tollbooth and Outback always got a lot of play time. They would infiltrate the Cobra mountain base that was filled with Bats (I had one) and Snow Serpents (I had two). Lifeline packed heat and was not a pacifist. Jinx was a force to be reckoned with and the Twins were often the leaders of Cobra's planning. Of course there were epic battles between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, but that goes without saying.
Vehicles were practically worn out...Awe Striker could do no wrong, Devil Fish was the fastest boat in my bathtub and I didn't need snow to take the Snow Cat out for a mission. My Joes went with me everywhere...outside, bathtub, Grandma's. Some of my best battles were in church. |

We had a giant deck in the back yard, and that would usually serve as the Cobra Temple. I had a GI Joe HQ that my Grandfather built for me that I kept outside, and our front porch was the landing strip. It was larger than the '83 HQ, but more or less had the same layout (I didn't take my '83 HQ outside because I was afraid I'd mess it up. I had a hole dug in the yard that I filled with water, and I remember many missions in that little pool with Torpedo, Deep-Six and Wet-Suit. I dug little holes in my yard and put figures in them covered by a leaf to reenact the scene from Red Dawn where they had that ambush in the field. I always played with a kid named Wesley who lived behind me. He was usually Cobra, but when I would attack, he always complained that he wasn't ready. I'd say something like, "This is war, you wuss. You must always be ready!" Wesley had all of the cool toys: Tomahawk, Terror Drome, Night raven (all the ones I have now. My inner 13 y.o. is so proud!). We'd play from morning til dark. Inside, my cofee table was the Cobra Temple and my Hallway was the Runway. This is wierd, but my favorite figure to play with in the bathtub was Major Bludd. Don't ask, beacause I don't know why. I always felt ripped off with the boats, because even though Hasbro swore they did, some of them didn't float. Two that come to mind are the Whale and the Sharc. The Devil Fish and Water Moccasin floated fine, though. I actually did a story line where Serpentor was killed, and I built him an underground tomb where I buried the figure. Unfortunately, a Black Widow built a web in the Tomb, and I never finished the ressurection story I had planned. I wonder if it's still there? Finally, I remember using the Star Wars Deathstar as my Cobra base. The big gun on top was the weather dominator. I could go on and on. Even today when I go to plaxces, I often analyze rooms to determine where I'd set up my Joes for battle (I want to have just one Joe vs Cobra battle in my doctor's office!). The longterm effects of GI Joe on my life is unreal!
