WAAAYYYYY Back in the 80's when the 3 3/4 Joe figures hit the shelves, how did you get them? Did your parents buy them for you? Did you have to do chores around the house for an allowance or something to buy your Joes? Did you become a famous Joe Theif? Did Santa bring most of them to you? How did you get your hands on all these famous figures? DID YOU ARMY BUILD?? Or were you pleased with just 1 of each figure.
This may be a good thread. |

My grandparents bought me almost all of my Joes. They pretty much spoiled me rotten and I love them dearly for it

Mix of chores, bdays, Christmas, etc. I only had one of each figure, as I was lucky to get even the ones I got back then. I guess that's why I army build now, to make up for my childhood. (Why is it everytime someone on here says this it sounds like a therapy session)?

Christmas/birthday gifts mostly, probably 5-10 a year for a few years (does anyone not know exactly what a GI Joe looks like in wrapping paper? I still picked it out when my mother-in-law got me one for Christmas a couple years ago), and I bought a few with my allowance.

I laid down on the store's floor and started screaming until my mom bought me what I wanted.
P.S. This stopped working around the time I turned 20. |

Single carded and small vehicles I would buy with saved up allowance or chore money. Big vehicles I got on Chanukah; birthday was reserved for a big lego set. I often had pairs of army builder figs to create the illusion of multiplicity without the cost of multiplicity. I also bought a significant amount of used stuff.

Same here, bro. They went on a cross country trip to California and stopped at every WM they found and bought boatloads of Joes "just because." And every Friday was a chance to get new Joes.

Got them on Christmas and maybe birthdays. I was lucky to get a few at those times and on very rare occasions did I manage to get one at the store when I asked. I have more Joes now as an adult than I ever did in all the years before the 25th/modern era figures.
