After drooling over Kuh_rupht's MTF Falcon most of yesterday and then wondering if the Club might add Falcon to the sonic Fighters line up, i once again had this thought:
Per his filecard, Falcon is a raw grade A bad ass. But both of his major appearances in the cartoons have him of questionable ethics and decision making, from chasing trim to the detriment of Joe team in the movie to becoming a drug addict during the HH storyline. What's the deal with that?

Two points:
(A) Practically everything in the file cards was written by Larry, but the cartoons were definitely not. Sometimes the cartoons did take their cues from the cards and the comics, but most of the time they were entirely unrelated. (B) Having spent time with actual Rangers and US Army Special Forces, I can assure you that being a badass and being a dumbass are not mutually exclusive. In the Army you figure out pretty quick that even the most highly qualified soldiers can still make terrible decisions about their personal lives and conduct. |

Better be careful... It’s 2018. Anything less than complete and uncritical praise for the military will get you branded as a muslim-loving commie homasekshul.

Commie?! Ok - I'll praise the military. I'll praise it for its subsidized housing, subsidized commissaries, subsidized and universal healthcare, and centrally-driven spending. But these guys do a better job: Our Communist Military - On Violence
But seriously, a lot of problems are self inflicted: The forces actually issue drugs: https://sofrep.com/102846/flashback-...c-issued-them/. There are lots of leadership problems: https://sofrep.com/94786/careerism-c...es-capability/. Those combine to let counter-cultures and the combination of bad-ass/dumbassery thrive: https://sofrep.com/79161/wild-west-c...es-seal-teams/ |

I love it! I’ll have to recommend this to my mother (who has been collecting disability for a quarter century) when tells me how evil the notion of national healthcare is.

But these are fair points. However, it's be cool if he actually did some of the cool stuff first.

I’m currently reading “Licensed to Kill” by Robert Young Pelton, the story of private contractors in the sandbox. Something I’ve learned is that when you hear about our special operations community getting mixed up in drugs, think less cocaine and more steroids. Some of our guys are juicing more than McGwire if what the book says is true. It’s not unheard of for our guys to get hooked on stuff during their time in the service, though. The stress of combat operations affects people differently. Some can walk through it and never miss a beat. Some don’t get through it. Got a buddy that was SFOD-Delta; he’s on wife #3. Why? He was totally down with the whole “wheels up, rings off” culture in special operations and the first two wives found out about it. Didn’t sit well. He’s out of the service now, so I think #3 will get a fair shot, but it doesn’t make his screwing around on the first two any less painful for them.
