Every keeps saying how important it is to his character that not only Snake Eyes be white, but also blond, but not actually explaining why other than "Why you gotta go changing things?!"
So, I'm earnestly asking, what in SE's character make up relies on his race/ethnicity and hair color remaining unaltered? |

I think there are varying degrees on just how important these little details are that fans would want the movie studios to adhere to. I for instance am not bothered to the point to where I would boycott the movie or complain to the studio or be entirely upset about it. My only thing is I don't see any harm in sticking to the source material. It just makes me wonder why the studios feel it is necessary to make the small detail changes and what is their reasoning as opposed to just keeping it like how it looks in the comic books. I will question the same thing if in the movie they had Chuckles dressed up in a suit and tie with sunglasses and dark hair as opposed to having him wear his tropical shirt and blonde hair. I had the same question when rise of Cobra came out and they had Cobra Commander wearing that fishbowl of a helmet. Even there I didn't understand why not just have him look like how he looked in the comics or the cartoon?
A Hawaiian shirt, but like Snake Eyes skin tone does not make a difference in who his character is. |

But at its core, we know why these changes are made. Diversity and representation is important. For example, most Marvel characters, for example, were created in the 60s and 70s, and only one mold was available. Changes like this don't bother me, and to be honest, everything I know about Stan Lee makes me believe that if he created the characters today, they would be much more diverse. I will say GI Joe is different generally, because they were created more recently, and specifically because Snake Eyes wasn't assigned any race or ethnicity by Hasbro. Larry Hama made that call, as far as I know, and obviously, Larry is an American of Asian descent. Which almost makes me wonder is this casting an homage to Larry himself, as Snake Eyes is his most popular creation.

I like source material as much as the next guy, but Chuckles wearing a Hawaiian print shirt as an undercover op is the silliest thing. He is suppose to be this great undercover op, but he chooses to wear a shirt that screams, ‘don’t look at me, I’m a secret agent!!!!’.
A Hawaiian shirt, but like Snake Eyes skin tone does not make a difference in who his character is. |

Snake Eyes' "Gaijin" background is very important to his character, he's supposed to be a white bread blond, he's this strange complex character, him being white isn't whitewashing or anything, as a kid I always thought he was asain, when I learned what he looked like under his mask it blew my mind, he was HIDDIES!, he looked like Barbie took a machete to Ken's face.
Best point Iv'e seen here, he's supposed to be "Gaijin" and background Is important. The bigger problem is Hollywood for the last few years have been pushing an SJW agenda and most of you have been silent. Well here we go, and the if they're going off of the original script for this "1970s Kung fu movie" Chinese and Arashikage is Japanese, ya it's already starting off stupid. |

Yep, Larry was pretty racist making Snake Eyes a blonde white guy. He probably did that because he's an Aryan racist (or because that's what you all are and he had no choice). I'm glad someone is finally fixing his mistake because it's not ok.
On an unrelated note, remember when Deadpool stuck to source material (despite studio desires) and was an utter box-office flop? I also want to point out that the studio possibly making the main character asian has absolutely nothing to do with pandering to asian movie markets at all. It is 100% about racial sensitivity and inclusion (absent an asian Snake Eyes, there would be no asian actors in the film). This is obvious in particular because of how little focus they put on international box-office numbers. It really is all about the feels and is NOT a revenue strategy, thus it must be defended to the death.

It's silly but he litterly becomes way less interesting if he's not a blond white guy, he represents every wimpy white kid in the 80s who got the snot beat out of thim on the playground, you didnt have to be that kid with Snake Eyes you could be the baddest ninja commando out there.

The idea of a white guy going into to Asia and mastering their arts tanked that show before it even started (even though it sucked on its own merits), and this is probably a reaction to that. You can't make a white guy the best ninja... Which is actually more racist to imply that the best martial artist has to be Asian...
