Maybe I should give it another chance.
I could never get into Star Wars and have never seen a full movie.

Nice. Then the sequel off of this movie can be called GI Joe: Retribution. Cobra will fight back to resume their hold over the world.

That actually sounds like a neat premise. A bit Star Wars-ish but I think it could work for a good alternate universe/sci fi like setting where they have more freedom to work with the setting and not try to worry about realism or real world issues, or ideas of terrorist organizations. Just pure good vs bad story, with Joes being a collection of different personalities that are all unique.

Also this seems to probably go along with part of the reason Hascon is skipping a year till 2019. They will essentially be showing off lot of new stuff for their coming new movies and merch for the following year.

I think we need to ask ourselves....Is what we want to see the best thing for the GI Joe franchise going forward? By franchise I mean toys and media. I love the Hama GI Joe in all it's forms. But that appeals to us GI Joe fans who played with these toys in the 80 and early 90's. Hasbro is a toy company, first and foremost. Yes they want to extend their business into other avenues to increase their revenue. But in the end, toys are their primary business and in this day and age the toys need a media presence in order to sell.
With all that being said, can Larry's version of ARAH GI Joe still sell toys and movies to 8 year olds? I asking..... |

In my mind, the Joe team was decommissioned in 1994 and a select few were tasked with building a “black” project, a private military company is a cover for rebuilding a truly covert operations group whose cover enables them to go anywhere.
COBRA is their competition. Destro and Cobra Commander looked at the “take over the world” plans and said, “screw it, let’s just get rich running wars”. |

1) The guys who actually buy the toys is small and shrinking. 2) G.I. JOE isn't relevant. 3) The very nature the G.I. JOE epitomizes masculinity. You don't get anymore alpha than G.I. JOE. For me to go further would violate the rules of the broad, so message me if you want me to go into more detail. 3) The fans and lovers of The Real American Hero brand are middle aged Generation Xers, (maybe some Baby Boomers,) who (for better or worse,) have placed ARAH into certain parameters and have a certain expectations regarding adaptions of the i.p. into other media. The easiest way to make G.I. JOE relevant again is to keep the JOEs in Joeverse their self contained Joeverse. Something else, I've said over and over again was "the JOEs don't play well with others." Though G.I. JOE has always had sci fi elements to it, the suspension of disbelief for G.I. JOE was very low. As s matter of fact some the science fiction that was in the comic and that wack ass Sunbow series, (yeah I said it,) is now a reality. Sophia, the A.I. that the Saudis granted citizenship to and sexbots are nothing more than better working B.A.T.S. German scientists kinda sorta madeva M.A.S.S. device.https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.the...ting-star-trek and we all know that the Weather Dominator is H.A.A.R.P. Hell, even the much maligned nanobots from R.O.C. is some real life shit. https://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/17/mini...e-warfare.html If I were in charge of this project, first of all, I have a decision to make. What will G.I. JOE look like. I decided to move away from ARAH, it would be a clean break. New characters, new team or person, a new enemy, a new mission. If I decided to stick with the JOEs we all know and love, them I would fully embrace and update what G. I. JOE is and give those middle age Generation Xers a movie that involves America's daring force who's mission is to defend human freedom against COBRA, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.
