Both the Rattler and Conquest X-30 were that price with figure@TRU and both were exclusives, meaning a smaller and more expensive production run. They can easily be $20@mass market.
I think the Skystriker could be brought back for $30, but honestly I would not mind paying $35-40 for that or a reissued Tomahawk.
I have a feeling hasbro might bring it back, I mean come on its the most iconic plane of the joes. Much like the HISS is iconic of all the cobra tanks. And how the Dragonfly is the most iconic of the joe helicopters.
Could the skystriker come back for $20? I think so. Remember we must not judge simply by the size, the toy is incredibly simple in construction and gimmick in regards to modern jets such as the thunderwing. There is nothing to wire, nothing to configure for lights and sounds. Undoubtedly that makes things more cheaper for Hasbro.
Years back I heard hasbro had the mold back but it suffered from mold degradation. The transformer Soundwave was said to have suffered the same fate or worse, but we all well know it came back both from takara and hasbro. Sure the transformers fanbase is much larger than us, but if there were ever a best opportunity to fix the Skystriker mold and reissue it, now is the time to do so. Why? Simply because this year is the 25th anniversary, so yes we do got something big going for us. Heck I'd probably buy 2-3, 1 for regular looks, maybe a spare or 2 to customize.
The only thing that might need possible redesign would be the locking tabs/slots of the vertical stabilizers. Make them more simple and easy to remove/replace. Interlocking like the thunderwings parts, so that if it pops off, it can be put back easily and does not break.
It might make things more cheaper. Everything else was fairly durable. Honestly. And in its state as is, it is a ton more durable than the cobra moray.
Anyways I can see it hitting stores in 07-08. If it is retooled in the tail section, i can see it being released multiple times. Come on its iconic. Its to gijoe, what the xwing is to star wars. |

I think it would be in the $50-$80 range due to size for starters the box is almost the size of my AT-AT box & we all know how expensive that was.
What I don't understand you would think that is they used an old mold then the item should be cheaper due to them not having to make the sculping & R&D to develop a new toy. But as those of us who collect Star Wars knows this is not the way it goes. By my estimations the Jedi Satfighter should soon be a 10-15 dollar vehicle look how many times they have used that mold. or better yet how many times have they released other "vintage ships" in the new line with high price tags AT-AT alone has 2 releases Or the over priced A-wing & B-wing ooohh it was exclusive big deal it's a 20 year old molds r& d money already made. thats why I dont see many vehicles being made.
However it does seem that Hasbro has traditionaly treated GI Joe with better respect than Star Wars when it comes to vehicles. |

They have the jet at TRU right now that comes with all sorts of accessories and figures for $20! It's about the same size as the Skystriker, mind you it may have less constuction (The wings don't move or anything) but the detail looks to be better than the Skystriker, so why can't Hasbro (The company that sells almost every toy in the toy aisle) make a Skystriker (or something similar) and keep it at the $30 price range
As for what vehiclke I'd like re-released, I'd be happy with many of the small to mid sized ones. Give me Vamps, Stingers, Trubble Bubbles and AWE Strikers and I'm happy. Make them all updated versions that aren't straight remolds and I'm even happier

However it does seem that Hasbro has traditionaly treated GI Joe with better respect than Star Wars when it comes to vehicles. | The star wars figures and vehicles cost significantly more because of the licensing fee hasbro has to pay to Lucas. Unlike Gijoe, Hasbro does not own the star wars license. Bear in mind as well, the ATAT had electronics built in, the Skystriker did not. Add to the fact that the ATAT is much more complex in regards to moving parts and gimmick.
Even though the Tomcat retired, the Skystriker has recognizability, is iconic, and of course when you have the older fans walking the store looking for a place, that will probably be the first one they think of. That, and the rattler.
Hasbro originally intended to reissue the skystriker in 2002-03. If you remember the first Joe vs cobra commercials from that year, this is why the skystriker was shown prominently near the logo. Instead the Conquest X-30 was chosen. I remember looking forward to the joecon coverage 2002 only to find my beloved fighter got replaced. Reason being that the mold had returned from Funskool in India but had suffered mold degradation(this was said on a joe forum b/w 2002-04, I forgot which one but its kind of common knowledge).
To come up with an all new big fighter from scratch would cost more than repairing the skystriker mold. Quote: |

| Agreed Shogi. I believe Hasbro can do the same. It helps that they own the Gi joe franchise as well. The PTE F-18 actually features folding wings and a moving airbrake. The skystriker is around the same size actually. I truly believe Hasbro can put the bird out for the $30 you mention. Its the anniversary! NOW is the best time to put it out. It is a much better and financially viable opportunity now than 5 years ago. Hasbro is going all out this and next year, and the skystriker is the first jet any ARAH joe fan remembers.
**Even though it is big, remember folks it was not that complex, therefore not as expensive as many would think. The Thunderwing probably costed a lot more to tool and develop, it may be a bit smaller but look how much gimmicks were put into it**

Also I betcha if they made a new jet they would make the jet that Starscream turned into in the movie (F-22 not to sure) & could still call it the Skystriker.

as noted before the skystriker is dated and out of service so not that likely. X-30 doesn't really have that problem.
nice to see a stun but i know a stinger is more likely |
