I'm anxious for a Hiss. Hopefully with the missling firing garbage they like to thrown vehicles. But I'm reallly hoping for a Vamp! Then they can reuse the mold to make the tan vamp and Stinger truck, and even that 4x4 that came with Vypra.

HISS II? i didnt like mine very much. always wished i had the original. only thing i liked about it was the troop carrier capability. otherwise? meh.
what would i like to see come back? most of you have nailed it, especially general scarlett. ;) AWE Striker was always my favorite small ground vehicle (used for recon/sabatoge/insertion/extraction) stinger/vamp is next after that. iconic. skystriker would be the ultimate win, but im not holding my breath. i'll repaint a PTE F-18 in classic skystriker colors for now. dragonfly. my favorite helicopter, ever. close second is the tomahawk. (considering a PTE blackhawk to assume the watch) MAULER! joes need tanks! and it would be a good counter to the HISS. rattler would be awesome. perfect counter to the skystriker. obvious choice. i like lots of the smaller cobra stuff like FANG and trouble bubbles. not much else from cobra... they always seemed to have less variety when attacking joes. (going mostly from the cartoon here) or it was lots of "one hit wonder" experimental stuff that joes always ended up destroying. on the F-14 being decomissioned... as a sailor that was on the ship that carried the very last west coast deployed F-14 squadron... this aircraft will live FOREVER in all of our hearts. everybody on the ship felt the return to san diego that day was bittersweet. glad as we were to be back home, we would never see the F-14 in action again. that said, if hasbro were to go ahead and greenlight the SKYSTRIKER, it would be like a final salute to the TOMCAT. a very honorable farewell to an old friend. i would buy one in a heartbeat. i would have my own SQN (squadron) if i had the room and my wife's blessing. ;) besides... i feel the need... the need... FOR SPEED! *cranks up "highway to the dangerzone"* (people have also told me i bear an amazing resemblence to "Goose" from top gun when i grow out my 'stache.)

I understand the nostalgia behind the F-14. I would buy a Skystriker in a heartbeat (though itll never be as cool as the Conquest...or dare I say Phantom). But I think if Hasbro is going to grab kids today with the 25th anniversary line it might not be the best choice. Because to many people the F-14 is dated with Kenny Loggins. For collectors it works out great but we're not the only ones buying.

The 25th anniversary of the gijoe line celebrates the classic gijoe looks. Thats why all the figures are based on their classic and iconic costumes(with exception of a few figures which you guys know about). Sure, with something more modern, like the F-22, maybe some interest can be gained, but I say save it for fall 08 or early 09 where a thematic change is likely to happen. This is the anniversary. The skystriker was based on an F-14. Believe me, I'd love to see the cancelled new Rattler that was based on the MIG-29. Yet I would still love to see the old rattler reissued. You are also not alone in wanting a Conquest and Phantom, both of them were great and some of the most original planes the joes had. As I have pointed out above, the age of the planes does not matter. The 3 big retailers sell planes older than Kenny Loggins. Hell maybe older than his parents. Everyone who finds out about the skystriker will expect an F-14 based toy, pure and simple. Its like expecting a Snake Eyes that is a pascifist doctor woman, it just won't, happen. In the 1/18 military figures/vehicles community, the top 3 demanded planes are the F-4, A-10, and F-14. The F-4 is being made by 2 different companies, 1 has theirs on backburner, while the other came out of nowhere and announced theres moments after the former announced theres at toyfair. That one is delayed too, but is being worked on as we speak. Even older ww2 planes, new molds are being produced and are in high demand. Its obvious planes sell and retailers want them. The F-14 is a classic jet. Its something new and old alike know about. Plus it was the joes' first jet. Like I said months back, its like the xwing in Star Wars. You can't say "hey, we are going to celebrate the A New Hope Movie and original Star Wars trilogy with a new completely different space fighter because younger kids will notice it more than the X-wing". |
