Here what was promised to us from the Hasbro CEO and movie producer Brian Goldner in an interview in early '09:
But what about the movie's spirit? Should fans expect to see a live-action version of the cartoon, an update on the Marvel comics, or something else entirely? According to Goldner, Sommers and crew want to take filmgoers back a couple of decades: "Steve Sommers is very different. But he's perfect, because if you think about his movies like 'The Mummy,' it's the perfect action/adventure movie. If you think about what we're trying to do for G.I. Joe, really bringing back that '80s G.I. Joe from the Marvel comics -- those first 155 issues are really our focus. If you think about that, you'll understand what we're trying to get at with all those characters and all the intricate relationships. I don't think you'd see this movie as wacky. I think you're going to see this movie as being inspirational for younger kids and totally in the sweet spot for the guys who grew up on G.I. Joe." Honestly, is this the movie we're getting....NO it isn't, we were LIED to! |

I guess Wolverine is a lesser disappointment by comparison then....
But if he isn't fired can we at least have a key grip punch him in face or something?! |

Isn't it in the studios best interest to deny things like this? Because if they said they fired the guy because he made a shitty movie, then that's some pretty bad PR. I don't know.

there was an article a year ago when the movie went into production about Hasbro's partnership with Paramount and how Hasbro had no financial stake in the movie whatsoever, it was all about the toys for Hasbro. Paramount fronts the money for a $170 million marketing campaign and Hasbro benefits from toy sales. with that in mind, I think it is safe to assume Hasbro had zero creative control with the movie and simply made the toys as the filmmakers designed the characters assuming people would want them because of the movie regardless of how they looked. if anyone wants to blame Hasbro, it should be for not having a creative authority on the movie to prevent some of these bad decisions (like Cobra Commander's design), not that they designed them themselves.

They do have a huge financial stake....thier 2nd quarter earnings from the toy line. The movie bombs...good by second quarter earnings...that will hurt them with all the invested capitol in the ROC figures and Walmart, TRU and Target will stop ordering the Joe product. The movie is going to bomb big time and we can kiss it all good by real quick Hasbro has already said and confirmed that in the Q+A.
Won't be much of a loss imop since they can't do it right and can not find anything inspiring from GI JOE's long lasting past but rather have to look to Iron Man, Tranformers, James Bond and Power Rangers to get source material and force mold it into GI JOE to force feed everyone. They should have thought about that and what keeps the figures alive at this point. Sigma 6 should have taught them a tough leason but it's hard to teach old dogs new tricks (hint hint Resolute) gawd they are so stupid it is not even funny. Thanks Sommers, Paramount Hasbro and ROC! appreciate ya! toodles...oh and Sommers don't let the door hit you on the way out... I am sure you can get back into the game one day doing black and white remakes of Van Helsing and Mummy returns for the 14th time for DVD/VHS owners...
