GI Joe has a ton of potential but Hasbro has to actual back it up. We need a new cartoon, video games, a media presence of some kind. Then there are all sorts of ways to go with it. A real American hero style, international, adventure team, hell they can do anything with these figures. They have to put some effort into it though and take some chances.

There is potential for sure but it will most likely go untapped. Hasbro let their GI Joe brand team go fairly recently - true advocates and fans of the brand. Not sure if they just felt they milked what they could out of the 25th anniversary, movie, modern era figures and saw it as a financial loss in the last few years (2013-2015) but they ultimately saw the GI Joe product as not profitable.
The movies really hurt the Joe brand even though they were middle of the road types in terms of profits. I thought the first Joe movie was pretty meh and did not bother watching the second so the movie - being a huge fan of the cartoon and toyline as a kid - the movie franchise was a let down. We have also just seen delays with the Snake Eyes movie. If Hasbro were smart they would look to get a license and incorporate the new Top Gun movie coming out next year into the Joeverse - even if it is just getting the rights to make toys for the movie - they gave us a toy version of Bruce Willis - why not Tom Cruise as Maverick? Why not make a 3 3/4" scale F/A-18 hornet etc? Joe was king in the 80s, Top Gun is one of the most iconic movies from the 80s (and one of the most popular movies on its own). My guess is that movie is going to be pretty damned big next year and will draw in all sorts of audiences - people like us in our 30s/40s as well as their kids and newer audiences. Joe does have potential but Hasbro needs to stop mismanaging the brand and tying it to their niche market and think of a way to get it back into the mainstream. |

I would love a new inspired GI Joe. A Gi Joe of the future. I think for the most part we've gotten the best of vintage, and the past in what was remade. Sure we missed a few figures, but for the most part we got taken care of.
So I like this new game Venom Assault. I heard these guys at Spyglass games talked to Hasbro to clear their ideas, but an AWFUL lot of these figures are similar to, or just thinly veiled joe stand ins. IT is set in the future but the character designs I think are killer. I would love these figures to get a toyline, a brand new look and line to add to the Joeverse I have that has Joe, Cobra, SKAR, MARS, Riot, Eagle Force, etc. All part of the same world.
