Ha! Yeah, there's something about reading a really nice looking book that makes it feel just a little more special. Especially when they are much loved tales like LOTR.

I'll take pics of my books later. I'm rather proud of them. My hardcover "Silmarillion" has a red and black painting of, oh, I forget which son of Feanor it is, throwing the Silmaril into the sea. I don't actually read the hardcovers, I got them for looks. I have worn paperbacks I actually read. |

This is pretty much what I do. If I read a book I really like I will look for a hardcover edition

I understand that completely, wanting to keep it mint. I read mine because I feel that there is a certain beauty in imperfection. I like my books just a bit worn with that "I've been read four times" look. it gives them character, like "this is my book, there are many like it, but this one is mine". I imagine that one day, my grandchildren will be looking through my library and marvel at my beautifully bound yet just a bit worn books.

I can appreciate the worn book thing.
It's just the LOTR books I hold that sacred. I read all my other hardbacks. Most of my books, I've noticed, are ones that were at one time or another made into films. |
