During the day the weather is bearable, around 55-60, but at night it goes down to the low forties with a bit of wind thrown in just for fun. I know that's not cold for guys from the north, but for me that's freezing!

It's a pretty easy thing to do. I do brake jobs for friends all the time and make a little extra cash.
Dude I work with chronic pain patients. Some of them are so strung out on their meds they don't know if they are coming or going. My schedule is pretty irrelevant as these people just kind of show up whenever they want, with or without an appointment. it's never a dull day around here.

Brake pads are pretty universal and are simple to do. The hardest part is loosening the caliper due to all the brake dust and pressure they are put under. I usually spray a decent amount of brake parts cleaner on everything before even starting. Once you remove the caliper, which should only be two bolts, you can slide the old pads off. Using a caliper separator, depress the hydraulic cylinder on the caliper. Then, simply slide or snap in the new pads, reattach everything and you're done! Before installing the new pads, spray some disc brake quiet on the back of them to help reduce friction and squealing.
You should also check the rotors for wear and have them machined or replaced if they are too thin. If you've never done brakes before, it mioght be a good idea to watch somebody do them so you have a good idea of what you are doing, unless you feel confident in your mechanic and deductive abilities. |
