Paypal placing a hold on disputed funds is nothing new. They've always done it, but up until their new policies took effect early this fall, it wasn't all that commonplace.
Now, what they are trying to do is immediately put a hold on just about any disputed transaction at all. The reason for this I suspect is to cut down on the slash and burn tactics of some rip-off artists, where they sell a lot of items they don't have (say Temple of Doom Indy figures), accept the payments then empty the account and bail. When this happens, most of the time Paypal is left holding the bag on replacing those funds for the buyer. While the new policies do suck for the honest seller, it's going to be better in the long run to weed out the bad sellers. The thing to remember to protect yourself in a case like this where the buyer is the issue, is to always ship to the Paypal registered and confirmed address, mail in a timely manner and to always slap a Delivery Confirmation number on the items your shipping. For overseas shipping, Global Express Mail is the only way to go. Your buyers will bitch because of the cost, but it is the only way you can prove that an item was received by an overseas buyer. Also, if your item sell for more than $250, it becomes mandatory with Paypal that you add signature confirmation to the items you shipping. I've been selling using Paypal for about 10 years now, and these tips are all hard won at the expense of several times being out of pocket on lost or broken items. Hopefully they can save you some money and piece of mind in the long run. Addendum: One of the major changes that affected me, is to the "item not as described" dispute. With regards to custom made items (which are in the majority what I sell) this no longer applies as it used to. If someone buys a blue hemet from me, and I ship them that helmet in blue, but it's not the exact shade of blue that appeared pictured, then they can no longer file a complaint and expect to recieve a refund. Personally I always try to make sure that things are as they appear, but on something like this where monitor color or photo size might be an impediment, there is no longer any off-hand consequences. Good to know. Thanks! |

It is so easy to steal while using eBay and PayPal as your accomplices.
1) buy anything you want on eBay and pay with PayPal. 2) wait for the item to arrive. 3) When it arrives file a dispute immediately with PayPal and say simply that the item is not as described. 4) They may ask you to return the item, if so, just send back an empty box or throw in some junk you don't want for good measure, it does not even have to weigh the same. Make sure you track it though. You will get your money back and get to keep the item, no problem. I am not Sh**ting you on this next tid-bit....PayPal will allow this no questions asked 5 times up to a total value of $5,000. I know, I spoke to PayPal about it and heard this straight from a rep. I personally have lost $3000 in 3.5 years worth of product + my shipping costs. PayPal is the Devil |

It'll be fine. If you ship with Paypal it tracks it automatically and they'll know when it's been received. Just reply to the duspute and wait. It sucks, but thats all you can do.

The fees suck with paypal, but I have many more good experciences with paypal than bad.
If being a seller, having a Premier account helps, it may cost a bit more, but I also feel more protected as a buyer and seller. |

well i have never had a problem with paypal untill this incident, see its the buyer who is trying to screw me, i swear the guy isnt all there because when he commented in the dispute he said i would not communicate with him when in fact he never even wrote me a email, i tried to explain to him that his package wasnt even purchased 3 dasy ago and that it take 2-5 days to get your package depending where you live, well he basically told me to get fu#@ed, so i called paypal today and talked to a representative for like 20 minutes explaining my dilema and i gave her the tracking number to his package so she said that since i provided a tracking number the problem would be resolved in 24 hours and i would have my money unfroze and back in my account so i just hope that is the case. i hate when buyers try and pull fast ones on you. like everyone here mentioned, its a shame that as a seller who basically make ebay stay in business that they would go as far to treat us like crap. we cant leave negative feedback if the buyer leaves it for us although i have never got a negative and am really hoping this guy doesnt try and give me one for calling him out and putting a end to his scheme. all in all though, i have learned not everyone with high feedback is a good buyer and when i looked at this guys account he had six negatives all saying he was scandalis and to beware of him. so from now on im just going to check out buyers feedback while they are bidding on a item if i choose to keep using ebay. after this last auction i have up is done i think im done for awhile.
