It sucks to hear people would take the time to pick apart background and styles instead of enjoying the contest for what it stand for, a chance to be creative. |

I don't want to beat a dead horse or anything here but if the reason you didn't vote was because you didn't want a popularity contest, then you failed in your reasoning. The moment someone decides, "Oh, I know who made that, won't bother voting now." they are automatically making a bias decision that has nothing to do with someone's work, rather based solely on someone's popularity. It would have been better to vote for someone else's custom or truthfully vote for whatever one you liked best rather than just remaining silent.

If you meant that i'm not confident to vote because i don't trust my skills, you're wrong, i'm a total douchebag about that and a braggart lol If you meant that i'm not confident on my judgement, well, you might be right. I'm not a good judge. I can be technical and cold to evaluate, but at the same time i appreciate the effort on each work, so it's difficult to me to say "this one is better". Granted, i can easily point out the best customs here (or the worsts), but i would feel like shit :( So, basically, i am honest, i know that i'm not a good judge. :P Not at all. It's really interesting to have for once a serious discussion about a hobby that i love and you all seem too. Most of my friends here on the tank aren't customizers, and none even knows about GI Joe were i live. I would like to see a discussion thread, but i dunno if it would be possible. Quote:

But it was really ovbious who was going to win by the time i look at the entries. Voting for someone else's work because i instantly recognized Obi's work (or yours, or pretty much all the others) didn't felt right. And adding another vote to the majority wouldn't had changed anything. So yeah, i was cheap, i just washed my hands. :S Quote:
I spent most of my time looking at customs. This contest was awesome, because it gives the opportunity to look some of the best working on something similar. It is a chance to compare and appreciate the different choices each customizer do. Honestly, there's no difference in having 100 votes or just 20. And it doesn't suck. People identifying styles means they're paying attention to your work. It is a kind of compliment actually, when somebody recognizes your style. In any case, the only thing i regret is not having the chance to be on the contest. Would have been an honour, looking at the general level of the customs.

I could tell who had what for the polished stuff and it didn't sway me. A private poll with a reveal of quotes and votes at the end would be awesome; I love not being able to see who is going to win.

Homemade Joes the Authority on Custom Action Figures. My hope is to build up as much customizing information, tutorials, discussions etc as possible all in one place. Carry on with the discussion it is a good one and Congrats to Jin for winning!

congratulations to everyone who gave time and effort for all the great customs! Great contest D! The first time I saw Jin's work 3-4 years ago it just amazed me to see customs which also inspired me to try it. Thanks!

I'm currently working on "The Mission" custom contest, which is a 3 phase contest for figure, vehicle, and/or diorama customizers. You'll be able to enter any or all of the phases. I have alot to plan to be ready for the 10.1.09 start date. Quote:
As for the voting in this contest, should knowing who did some of the customs really affect the willingness to vote? We all know who did some of the customs, but your vote should be based solely on the custom and not the customizer. Because you like so and so customizer, and they made such and such custom, so you voted for their custom, you failed. The voting instructions said to vote for the custom that you choose to be the Undisputed Ninja Master. The customizer shouldn't even be a factor in deciding your vote. Ok, now that I've made my peace , is there anything that should be changed for the next contest? One change is that I'm getting rid of the post limit for entering the contest. Any ideas, comments, criticisms, etc.? |

One of the admin's options for users should be able to change voting to a limit, like people that just joint can't vote for such and such days, or can't vote till they hit X amount of posts... Maybe talk to an admin and see if there's something they can help on, it'll also benefit them, so you don't have a repeat of the GI Joe club custom contest vote stuffing...
Another option is to have the poll set up so the votes will only be seen after it's over, then after the votes are cast and poll closed, you can weed out the "0" poster votes.. you can see if a mod/admin will help you look over the votes and make sure there aren't any shared IPs on new users.. stuff like that, the only problem is getting someone to help you, and the time to look over each and every vote. You could just start your own message board, or maybe see if someone would let you use a part of theirs.. and give you mod/admin abilities there so you can tweak what you want no problem.. but then again, then it's not a HISSTANK contest.. lol.. and would the admin here be upset that you're moving it off site.. a lot of things to think about.. anyway, hope some of those suggestions help. |

I was toying with the idea of having the votes sent to me by PM, but I wasn't sure if my inbox could handle it. There's also the issue of trust. Anybody could look at the votes for the ninja contest and keep a running tally to confirm the top 3 customs. If it's a blind vote, how do you know the contest is being run honestly?
