In before the "wtf is this shit?!" comments.
The art looks rough as hell, but it has a certain charm. Think they could have done better though. Why does everyone think manga = rough style? I'm more impressed we're getting more Helix goodness so soon.

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this comic, from these pages it looks like we'll get a nice little two part series that will be nice to read every now and then, but probably will never be revisited. I do like the joe designs though.

Suprised no one has reviewed this comic yet, but it was a good read. Duke is portrayed far less as a brilliant field commander and more as impatient and lucky, but skilled. The first part of this does a good job of setting up a new Joe universe (how many does that make now, IDW?) and creates "new" characters. In many, many ways, this is a superior comic to the IDW main Joe comic as it gets to the action and creates the story much faster. It is sort of an amalgam of Sigma 6 in it campiness and the Marvel comics pace. What I did NOT like was the price - waaay too much for part 1 of 2 comics without any color! Price is starting to become an issue for me with IDW - too many comics at too high a price with not a lot for them. This was a longer story than most comics, but not certain it was worth twice as much. Still, I'm glad I read it - just would have loved it to be 3.99 or there abouts.

$8 for 56 pages?!
Holy crap! Is the ink made with 24 carat gold or are they just trying to drive people to illegal downloads?!

Not my bag, but I can see how people would dig it. Honestly, for me, three continuities is enough to follow. I've got IDW, the movies, and soon Renegades. I've no interest in picking up a fourth at this point, and yeah, that price is a tad on the ridiculous side.

Yeah, I was trying to follow all the Joe books but their prices have basically cut me outta the loop. Theres no way I'd pay $8 for this especially with the artwork and B&W etc.
I do think its kinda funny Snake Eyes looks a bit like Batman on the cover.
Jmacq1 says
Glad to see Helix being used somewhere. Still holding out hope that she'll pop up in Renegades at some point.

it wasn't too bad of an issue.
the action was nice, but the Duke's character was just plain annoying. there was a lot of campy stuff going on along with violence... so yeah, it's your typical manga series.
i'll buy the next issue just because i bought the first, but i really would have been just fine if i didn't buy it at all.
