So I'm a Joe fan from way back and I surprised nobody has thought to make a MMO based off GI Joe. Hell Star Wars got a few (well that CW game doesn't count) but why not a Joe one? There's so much potential its not even funny. With years of lore and stories, I'm amazed its not been done. You already have two factions for players to choose from and the classes could easily be worked up on both sides. Am I the only one that wishes for something like this? Is there a logical reason why we couldn't have one? What are some of your thoughts...

Cause no one seems to care about G.I.Joe right now.

Plus, I bet there would be some serious balance issues... like 90% of the people being Cobra. LOL.

hasbro has no 'vision' for the brand beyond rinse and repeat of the past.
there are countless threads on opinions of what hasbro is not doing. TMNT, Ninjago (lego), etc. all seemed to have figured out the recipe for success fairly easily. or they make it look easy. i honestly don't know why hasbro seems to struggle so much with gi joe in getting a good mix of exposure across media. no sense on piling on though. it's a topic that has been run around since i've been here in the run up to 25th.

How do you balance a machine gunner versus a ninja? How do you do raids, soloing, questing?
What zones would you have? What classes? This would be a game of shooters, how does that work for an MMO? Everyone hides behind something and just shoots? What about the vehicles, which are a huge part of G.I. Joe? Start answering those, and in a way that would make a fun and workable game, and you'll be well on your way. If haven't been able to make it work after a couple days of trying, then you'll have your answer why no one has done it.

A Battlefield-esque game would work better than an MMO.

But even that still does't get the full Joe effect.
You need to drive vehicles, you need to lead a squad, you need to be Snake Eyes and hand to hand, you need to be a FPS, you need to invade Cobra island. A true Joe game would have elements of every other game out there: RTS, FPS, sandbox, fighting, etc...

Because Hasbro/The Game developer wouldn't likely make enough money on it to make it worth the cost of development.
Using other brands is invalid when they're already successful brands...right now G.I. Joe isn't, and until it enjoys a level of success that makes Hasbro more confident about putting more money into the brand and would make a game developer interested enough to pursue the license to make a game, that's pretty much how it's going to stay. You may sometimes have to spend money to make money, but with the toy business you also need to make money for your corporate owner to be willing to spend more money on you. |
