I did on 360. It was alright. I dig the 'precision bombing mode'. OFF mode hasn't been fixed in any way that I can see. Still a random 3rd person camera angle and no indication where your nose is pointing, so gun shots are still dificult to pull off.

My favorite thing about Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies was the extra paint schemes that you could unlock for the various planes. I also would love it if you could paint your own plane too.

The HAWX2 demo was ok, not great. (spoilers) The first mission had you flying as a Russian Mig-29 pilot fighting against "ultra-nationalist" over some mountains. You just flew around shooting down bomber and tankers. Nothing really great. The hud is a little different then I remember, its more realistic. I didn't use the pilot assist stuff. At one point in the mission you hook up with a tanker to refuel. It was pretty cool, except I had to continually go as fast as possible to catch up to it. When you try hooking up with the boom, the camera zooms in which threw me off course.
The second mission was ok too. This time you took off from a carrier at night in a F-35. It was a cool little addition that makes the mission more interesting. Your flying over some African country bombing "insurgents". The F-35 has this bomb sight which allows you to aim and shoot bombs like thier missiles. It reminded me of like a B-17 bomber sight with 360 controls and smart bombs. You blow up some transport ships and take out an Last edited by Force 21; 08-19-2010 at 08:22 PM.. |

(cont) airfield. The NVG was done nicely and all the tracer fire from the city looked cool. You end by landing back at the carrier, which isn't too difficult.
At the end I wasn't overly impressed, it felt like HAWX with a few cosmetic changes. AI was a little better. One big problem though. You cant change the camera view without pausing the game and going into option menu. I hate that. |

This new AC game looks very, very impressive. I watched it via XBLIVE and I was totally blown away by it.

Saw a developer interview. Looks awesome, worried about gameplay. Controls have been entirely overhauled. They are careful not to label it Ace Combat 7 because it isn't a sequel, it is a rebirth for the brand.
Focus is on up close combat, seeing the enemy up close and personal as it is destroyed. Dev team didn't want to have it like the previous games in the series where you fire at something into the distance and not really see it. Primary worries so far are that the flight controls seem more like they are on rails, like Afterburner, and that nothing from the old formula will remain. As in this is an ambitious attempt but one that may do away with what worked before in a risk to attain a new, and potentially larger audience. If this game is truly going to be different than the status quo, then whatever, maybe it will be fun but I hope we still get a "true" Ace Combat 7 eventually. I'm in wait and see mode. Trailer looked cool but will wait until I play it myself. |
