An open world is a type of video game level design concept where a player can freely roam a virtual world.
The term is sometimes used interchangeably with "sandbox" and "free-roaming"; however, the terms open world and free-roaming describe the game environment itself and allude more to the absence of artificial barriers, in contrast to the invisible walls and loading screens that are common in linear level designs. The term sandbox refers more to the mechanics of a game and how, as in a physical sandbox, the user is entertained by their ability to play creatively, boundless of artificial structural constraints, and with there being "no right way" of playing the game. Seems I fall into the "sandbox" games fan category then.

I bought the first one for my Playstation 2 long ago because it just looked so cool. Sad to say I've never opened it. I think it's still sealed in cellophane.

this game is so full of win and covered in awesome sauce
its gta in the wild wild west...third person/first person open world shooter i havent gotten far in it as time wasnt on my side last night but suffice to say...other than the bit of wonky dialog its awesome there is only one time though where during a cutscene i called bullshit...because of how it played out i understand it was necessary to set the tone...but it was not "plausible reality" still awesome game best part i enjoy...roaming around looting bodies. game tip when roaming around if someone tries to flag you down and starts the "i'm stranded out here can i have a ride?" hop off your horse and beat his ass...he will throw you off your horse and steel it...although you can always engage your dead eye and pop him with your rifle... oh and skinning is such a neat feature |

You don't have to shoot the guy to get your horse back. Just whistle for your horse before he gets away/as soon as you recover, and it'll buck the guy off and come back to you. -Then- you can go and mess the guy up however you see fit, which is lots more fun. |

I like the fact you can hunt game. The side quests can get annoying and distracting. Though I will say I enjoy the poker games to no end. Can't say I'm really involved in the characters yet but I do love the world itself. Some friends and I played around in multiplayer free roam and had an awesome time exploring. When you start out you have a donkey being at a low level. As you progress you get more horses. Needless to say there were a lot of "ass" jokes.
