I have a PS3 and wanted to get some feedback before I purchased one of these games.
Which one has been the better franchise in the past and do you think is worth getting?

Not sure which game is better, but I just saw an ad for a MLB 2K10 contest if you pitch a perfect game you can win one million dollars.
I think the contest ends at the end of May. |

My brother is really into baseball and has been seeking a decent video game to play for the past several years. He has a 360 which has been plagued by poor baseball games because the 2k series are the only ones that have been available for 360 players--the Show is licensed exclusively for the PS3. So he has resorted to playing the Show on his old PS2 which has gotten him by. Having said that, the 2k series made a significant leap in 2010 this year he said as he played it when it came out the other night and he says they rebuilt the engine and did a bunch of things to make it play better. Hopefully they have fixed all the bugs/glitches that used to hamper it. He said graphics-wise it looked beautiful on a 720p 37" LCD TV, but he may be skewed because he's so used to playing PS2 graphics on a 19" tube. He is selling his 360 now though to get a PS3 so that he'll be able to play the Show whenever he wants.
FWIW. |

I read a review on IGN and they say that MLB The Show is the better game. I only have, for now, a 360 so I only buy the 2k series, I have everyone since '05 and love them but The Show has only been out a few years and I have heard great things about it.

It's not even close. MLB 10 the Show is the far better game. It really is like the slogan says...the most realistic baseball game ever. If you are a baseball fan, it is worth purchasing a PS3 for.
Go to Operationsports and see all of the feedback for the game at that site. |

I just got a PS3 and I need a baseball game... I'm going to take the leap of faith with MLB10 The Show because the graphics look too amazing to pass up on. The last two MLB games I bought was MLB99 for the PS1 and Triple Play (2001) for the PS2; so it's been a while. LOL. MLB 99 was my fav baseball game though and almost played an entire season with it.

I wish MVP didn't lose the license. It's not the same since they've been making college baseball games. I still play my MVP 2005 for the PS2.

The 2K series has the better track record as a franchise (it's been around longer, too, which has helped cement its reputation). That being said, with this year's current crop of games, MLB '10 The Show has been getting generally much better reviews than MLB 2K10 (which seems to be hitting the "stagnation phase" many long-term sports video game franchises go through every now and then).

Excellent thread. I forgot these games even came out .. and as a new PS3 owner (picked one up in the fall), I have been waiting for the new baseball games to hit.
I have been reading reviews, and this one in particular struck me. It says that MLB 2K10 has gotten better from previous incarnations, but that The Show is the way to go. Chris' MLB '10: The Show Review - MMChrisS's Blog - Operation Sports Can't wait to give it a shot! |
