So I got my hands on this highly anticipated sequel yesterday and I have to say that Bioware did an excellent job of building hype about transferrring characters from the first game into the second game, only to have you find out they were lying their asses off. Oh yeah, you can definately transfer your character, sans any experience and inventory you may have worked your ass off getting in the first game. Not only is the character transfer a real let down, IMO, it also ruins the game in the sense that, as the user, you are expecting to hit the ground running and be a little ahead of the bell curve. So my advice to Bioware, for the next one, if you are still going to promise users character transfer, don't go killing the character I import in the first 5 mintues of the game, gimmie my sh*t from the last game, and keep my F'ing class intact. Sorry bastards.
/rant.

Actually there are bonuses given for if you transfer a beaten game file where your character is over Level 50 and stuff... When the game started going I was already at Level 5 or so because of that.
I do admit that there are some things in ME2 that are a letdown...like no MAKO driving whatsoever. >_< (We wanted planet exploration to be better Bioware not totally eliminated) Plus you don't have an inventory really now as well as much stuff to level up. I dunno... Maybe I was spoiled by Dragon Age Origins recently or something, but ME2 isn't as good as ME was to me, but it's still enjoyable once you get into it. As you get further into the game with a file transfer character you maybe will run into characters you encountered in ME in various places and so on... So the file transfer is more for what your character did in the first game then anything really. Whom you may have romanced, who died, etc... |

I never played the game but I see why you are so upset. If they promised to let you import your character from the earlier game, then they should have done that.

They have repeadetly said in the past that the character's level didn't transfer, the main hype about the transfer system was the fact that it remembers all of your decisions from the previous game... I'm not quite sure how the transfer could have worked the way you wanted it to, the combat system and levelling are completely revamped :-/ Personally overall I find it to be a much more cohesive and well put together entry. That's not to say I didn't love the first game, I had a level 60 and a level 50 character on my playthroughs. I personally enjoy seeing the characters from the first game who have moved on to do other things with their lives, it's not realistic to expect them to be around after the events of the first 5 min of the game...

I bought it off a buddy of mine for a discounted price. He was done after he "Imported his character" and saw the results. Got it for $20 off. I feel better giving the loot to the individual, rather than feeding the beast that is known as EA.
