No spoilers within...
Yeah, it is supposed to be like that...I think the rift with the rage or pride demon on the river by the farm is ridiculously hard under level 8 so far..still can't beat that one..... The rest have been pretty standard, but that one is obviously meant to be a beast. You may also need new party members, or add some mage spells the demon isn't resistant to.... he is resistant to cold and I've been buffing cold spells... oops... I also wasn't dialoguing at Haven, so I was missing some dialogue options that have cleared up some of my concerns about the Keep transfer. Another one that can be more difficult is the mercenary/bandit with the Maul....... That's all I can say without spoiling..... Quote:
The River Gorge is indeed the hardest rift I've found so far. Despair Demon plus greater Terror Demons = PAIN And yes, I had to level up a bit before I could take on the Merc in question. The Rifts near that location are also fairly tough thanks to Greater Rage Demons and a ton of Wraiths. Also, a special announcement: Bears have a shit-ton of hit points (though they're not that hard unless you get a bunch of them on you at once). Haven't touched Redcliffe yet, and the Merc Keep branches to another locale that I'm fairly sure I'm not ready for. But we'll see tonight! So far, my biggest beef is actually the loot/crafting system and the fact they don't give us any non-inventory storage that I've found. I love how deep the crafting system is, but I haven't quite figured out the balance of making stuff vs. using stuff you find and the random assortment of schematics you get often don't seem to be stuff my character can use. Also most of the loot I find is higher level than I can use...is it the same for you? I get annoyed because I'm carrying all this stuff that I hope I might be able to use in a couple levels but until then it's taking up a bunch of space. The crafting system kinda seems thrown together so far. Like they took a bunch of stuff they liked from skyrim and threw it into the DA system. I don't think it works really, but at least not at lower levels. The loot, accessories, and weapons I've found so far aren't helping with my core group, and the upgrades don't mesh. I have to keep selling stuff I may neeed later but can't use now (is there storage somewhere?)...I also can't find much to buy--I guess I may have to spend money for power/influence points later????
Also having trouble negotiating the left button and the left white button (?)...kinda clunky in combat. the camera in that tactics view is also a bit 'off' ....IMO. Early quibbles more than super complaints or anything...I will re-evaluate after another 15-20 hours I guess. as much as I like not having to buy or craft potions the 8 potion system is a bit weird as well....

SPOILERS
Well I'm at the part where I have to choose if I want the Mages or Templars as picking one locks the others out. I made peace with the Geth and Quarians but I can't get those two groups to play nice? Oy... |

It REALLY makes you agonize over the decisions, and unlike previous Bioware games it's pretty much impossible to "always please everyone" with the in-game decisions. You'll definitely get enough approval bumps from other stuff to keep your party members pleased in the long run, but some of them you're gonna have to work hard for "friendship" status (their card changes on the "select party" screen when you're friends/lovers with them). It's not like the old Bioware games where as long as you're always nice to them they approve, etc... No color-coded options, and no sliders to tell you how much approval you have with someone. Really makes you think.... On a more prurient note: Bioware finally just bites the bullet and puts frontal nudity into (some of) their sex scenes. Tastefully done (at least in the scene I saw) but still a surprise (even if the rating mentioned nudity, I figured it'd be a Desire Demon or something...who seem to be conspicuously missing from this game). |

Yeah I noticed I got a greatly disapproves from Cassandra on the Mage issue, yet back at camp she was either neutral or supportive of my decision... so I feel there is a bit of a contradiction there.
I miss the gift system in Origins... I had everyone at 100 approval because I showered them all with gifts... it was great. |

I miss the gift system in Origins... I had everyone at 100 approval because I showered them all with gifts... it was great. I don't. While there are "gift" quests for any character you romance, the added difficulty makes the supporting characters far more realistic. In the real world you can't just give someone that hates you a bunch of cheap gifts to make them like you. But as you play through the game, you kind of start to get a feel for what the characters are like: Cassandra is very risk-averse, and extremely devout. Making choices that are less "risky"/audacious (for the Inquisition as a whole) and dialogue that supports the Chantry/the Maker/Andraste scores points with her. Vivienne wants ORDER and is also ambitious. She's pro-Circle/Pro-Chantry and thinks giving people lots more freedom is generally a bad idea. But she also likes people that are clearly thinking ahead and have interesting and unusual ideas (as long as they don't include "Freedom for all Mages!") Sera likes to see the little guys taken care of, nobles to get some comeuppance, and hates it if it seems like you're abusing your power. Solas generally supports freedom for Mages, helping Elves, and to a lesser extent helping other folks in general. Cole is all about helping people, and also hates people being imprisoned (if you're trying to build favor with him don't sentence people to imprisonment...even killing them is better). Varric is a little weird, because his likes/dislikes can change based on decisions in Dragon Age II (off of the Dragon Age Keep). He's also generally about "looking out for the little guy" though, and the easiest way to get favor with him is to have him in your party while you kill a certain type of enemy. Dorian, cliche as it may be, just wants to be accepted for who he is. Also he has an "enemy type" you gain points for for killing with him in the party. Blackwall wants you to be supportive of the Grey Wardens. Unsurprisingly killing Darkspawn with him in the party nets approval too. He's also pretty big on looking out for the common folk. Iron Bull wants a good fight and good camaraderie. Also has an "enemy type." Actually a few different enemy types that net approval for killing with him in the party. Thankfully there aren't any "Morrigans" in your party who dislike it when you go out of your way to help people. Unless there's some specific circumstance that would lead them to do otherwise, generally being helpful will at least net approval from some party members, while others just remain neutral. Also many characters have operations on the War Table that net approval from them. So in the grand scheme, once you figure out their personalities and/or "enemy types" you can probably get everyone fully "on your side" with the side-stuff even if your "big" decisions aren't doing so hot with them. I've been able to romance Cassandra despite her disapproval about the mages, for example. |

70+ hours in, and I know I'm not nearly done by peaking at the guide main quest names and numbers..... new things keep popping up in previously completed areas as well.....I also like how plants grow back and minerals re-grow after a period of time...This is a deep and expansive game, and that can't be understated. I honestly don't think you would be very successful speed playing through the main parts of this game either..the AI leveling is pretty good/solid.
