I think a 1st or 3rd person game would work with G.I. Joe, but I've been playing "Uncharted 3" for the past couple weeks and I think that would be the game that I'd most like to see them copy. Lots of movie cut-scenes, varying styles of action, and a really good puzzle element to the game. You wouldn't be just shooting at Cobra's, but actually trying to figure out what they're up to. Drake goes all over the world in this game hunting down his next clue. It reminds me of the MASS Device movie, with the Joes having to travel all around the world looking for elements.

there was also a partial mod for UT2004 which was basically a vehicle mod - replacing certain vehicles with Joe/Cobra ones. it had the Sky Hawk, HISS and VAMP in it. |

FPS games (well, actually almost all games) are focused on shooting, first of all; and that's the right way to do a game! what do you make of a long, complicated story if you cannot enjoy playing?
that said, i don't think a Joe FPS would be a very bad idea; all problems are about is basically BUDGET and SELLINGs; but these problems are common to all FPS. let me imagine a possible scenary First of all, a lot of JOEs; and many COBRAs, of course; more Joes 'cause they individual subjects, while Cobra hide behind masks; however, there should be cobra known operatives too; Baroness, Destro, Firefly, Storm Shadow (playable both as Cobra AND Joe, after he will be defeated). Even GIJOE needs some privates, the Greenshirts (from Devil's Due comic). How do you feel about using just some chars at the beginning, then unlocking others during gameplay? Second, different char classes; 0: infantry/recruit 1: leader 2: ranger 3: shocktrooper/heavygunner 4: explosive expert/supper 5: sniper 6: scout/LRRP soldier 7: tecnic/scientist 8: doctor 9: pilot (char can have just 1 of next choices!) 9a: driver (pilots ground vehicles) 9b: sailor (pilots boats) 9c: airman (pilots airplanes) 10: commando 10-bis: ninja (a special kind of commando) every class must have unique features; leader calls airstrikes and satellite recons; ranger uses many types of granades and deals with traps; shocktrooper carry heavy weapons; supper manages both friendly and enemy EODs, and carries explosive weapons (RPGs, bazookas, and so on); sniper, well.., he snipes! scout merges into the wood, jungle, any open environment; the doc does the field doc; the scientist interacts with computers, high tech traps and so on; the pilot pilots, using onboard weapons to shoot; commando does what the scout does, but in city environments, factories, army bases, etc; ninja is a hyper-commando, goes wherever he wants, does whatever he wants, in a way that puts Sam Fisher and 47 in a shame; the great difference betwen commando and ninja is ninjas stack on traditional ways, commandos keep all available high tech be aware: every char must one or two classes from 1 to 10; 10-bis (NINJA) is exclusive, no more classes; if a char has just one class, then he must be very good in that specialty. infantry/recruit is important to have greenshirts, then you can train them to unlock new chars, or create multiplayer custom soldiers next, chars skin: many chars should have more skins, and possibly some skins could change class specialty. here's an example: choose Shipwreck with ARAH skin (sailor outfit) and he will be SAILOR class, so he pilots and shoots onboard weapons; choose IDW skin (militar outfit, or sub outfit) and he will be a Navy Seal, so he falls under RANGER or SHOCKTROOPER class! next, vehicles; all classic Joe and Cobra vehicles: light, heavy, fast, slow, weak, armored, all of them: i think it's better keep away odd things like Rise of Cobra mole pods, lets stuck to solid, trustable miths. next, gameplay: Campaign mode to start, a training camp to do some tutorial; then, several different scenarios: city, country, jungle, desert, arctic, factories, military bases, even Terrordomes, the Pit, USS Flagg and the White House; i like to play same missions both in attack and defence, so i say we need a Cobra point of view and a Joe point of view; maybe during a mission, we could change side; however, better have some one-side missions, to not overdo; in playing time, chars can talk and interacts with NPCs (not playable chars) and interrogate prisoners to unlock side quests (as in Batman: Arkham City) and now, the point which seems more debated in this thread; the Visual: 1st person? or 3rd Person? i say, why not both of them, both have good and bad sides, commandos and ninjas need 3rd person, snipers, rangers, shocktroopers need 1st person Campaign mode must be single player or cooperative play. then we need some multiplayer, with maps (playable also in single player in a dedicated mode called Skirmish). playing modes... King of the Hill, Capture the Flag... i always stay far from multiplayer, but i know someone buys games just for that! closing. DLCs. that's quite impossible put all Joes and cobras, in one game, so DLCs solve this problems; of course, if the software house adds a new mission or faction (Dreadnoks, Red Ninjas, Red Shadows, Jugglers) that's the top! what you think about my ideas? |
