well not much visually but just being able to see the character's familiar duds isnt the only reason for wanting to be that character. you are fighting other familiar characters and your opponents will see you as whoever you are coming after them. look at how successful goldeneye was. i liked being jaws caus of what others saw when i was trying to kill them. but the PS3 game, goldeneye reloaded, added a twist on it where each different character had strengths based on the character himself. and each character could have their signature weapon which will be personal preference. theres tons that go into it. just cause i cant see the 14 on bazooka's jersey wouldnt stop me from playing as my favorite character cause id be using his bazooka, which is my strength in fps games, and i would love chasing down cobra characters. and how cool would it be to play as zartan where you can disguise yourself to look like a teammate of your opponents like in team fortress 2. you gotta think on a whole bigger level

But what's the point of being Zartan and changing into other characters if you can't actually see them? Basically what I'm saying is GI Joe is character based. So are the most popular video game characters. Nobody cares what the characters on CoD actually look like. Honestly most only remember Soap. If you were playing a Joe game you would want the characters to be recognizable, not just for the fans but also for the brand. A hand with a gun in it isn't gonna help the brand. Watching Snake Eyes jump around slashing and shooting guys or flying in a Jump Pack as Grand Slam would be incredible in 3rd person. First person takes out a lot of the elements that allow the developers to showcase the brand, which is all that Hasbro is worried about.

I haven't played it. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying an FPS wouldn't be cool I'm just saying a 3rd person games makes more sense.

completely different games though. fps games do well because of the online gameplay. thats where this game would be incredible with arah characters.

The problem to me with a lot of FPS games is the campaign is short and seems like an afterthought because everyone only plays them for the online experience. Joe would be great online if you could play as Joes and fight Cobras. But I think that they could create a much better story line with 3rd person as opposed to FPS. Like I said a Joe FPS would just feel like MW3 with Cobra Soldiers.

I suggest playing Command and Conquer: Renegade. It's basically the right formula. You'll play roided up Flint or Duke [your choice] and gundown faceless and mindless Nod Troops.

First person shooter for Joe defeats the point, as has already been mentioned. Not to mention that it's setting the brand up for failure, because most people will be more inclined to just buy another iteration of Modern Warfare or Ghost Recon or Medal of Honor than G.I. Joe. FPS is a VERY crowded market and the chance of Joe getting a "top tier" game are slim (being a licensed product and all).
In my opinion the best engine for G.I. Joe would be something like the Battlefront games: Recognizable individual characters, ranged and melee combat, and vehicle combat all rolled into one game. And enjoyed a strong online presence back in the day. FPS games aren't the only things people play online. Last edited by Jmacq1; 06-12-2012 at 08:39 AM.. |

FPS would be stupid for G.I. Joe.
All the reasons Wormser gave for it "working" revolve around the online component only. It would be very limiting and not really have campaign mode. Not everyone plays games online. To make a good Joe game you need to involve all the elements: vehicle combat, large scale RTS-style battles, Assassin's Creed-style fighting (Snake Eyes), large arcing campaign that involves different environments/settings (sea, arctic, jungle, desert, urban) so can use a variety of characters, and even some 3rd person shooter options. Would an online Joe game, fighting team vs team, single vs single, with Joe avatars be cool? Sure. But it would be a disservice to the property because it's so limiting. Joe needs a large scale campaign with multiple parts, sub-missions, etc.. It needs a format that involves vehicles, snipers, explosives, fighters, martial arts, stealth, battlefield combat, and so many other elements.
