Took a while but finally got some moments to post this review. Lots of delays, real life, research into releases and such (as there is no site that lists the releases in V1, V2, ectas yojoe does for GI Joe), some confusion on figures that have been released muliple times, ect. But here it is finally, enjoy. http://www.zedsjoesite.com/review/mfvader/mfvader.html |

Really enjoying these columns. While it was probably because you don't own the figure(s) anymore, I was kind of disappointed by the lack of "pre-prequel" Vader figures here, particularly the first "removeable helmet" Vader, which was my default for several years (and probably one of the best figures of the early PotF2 era). But that might just be personal bias talking.
Not to get into a big discussion on the prequels, but how awesome would it have been if when Vader was introduced in Episode III, he was wearing the MacQuarrie concept armor rather than basically looking exactly like he does in Episode IV which takes place 18 years later? Major missed opportunity there, IMO. |

The POTF2 figs are long gone from my collection, although I did hold on to the removeable helmet for a very long time just cause I was excited that Hasbro made it at all. Which is kind of a big deal since I hated POTF2 soo much.
I was just discussing the EpIII idea you mentioned with someone, I came to the conclusion that they didn't do that to avoid confusing the audence, not positive but I can see someone saying that, then again maybe no one ever thought about it either. Thanks for the kind words. |

Ah well, I don't hate the prequels as much as a lot of people on the internet seem to, but I'll never deny that there were plenty of missed opportunities. |

This wave was one of the "shortest" of that year, and the concept Anakin was pretty much the most popular figure from the wave. I never saw a single figure from the wave at retail (ordered from BBTS), and I know a lot of other people were in the same boat.

I could see that being an excuse, though in truth I don't think it was ever really considered. Still, I don't think it'd be confusing at all. Yes, it would look different, but he's still instantly recognizable as Vader. Put that figure on your desk at work and no one's going to ask "Who's that?" y'know? I always just thought it would've been a little bit cooler if we could've seen some kind of "proto-Vader" rather than implying he was basically stagnant for almost 20 years.

Spirit Ani looks like he should be on stage at a tranny bar. Why Lucas decided putting him in a dress would be cool is beyond me.
I'm sure he's useful for "entertaining" the gents in Cell Block D. Overall I'd say that was damn nice review. If I get a craving for a Vader figure I may have to track down a couple of those guys. Last edited by Bujo; 03-12-2011 at 02:43 AM.. |

Eh I kind of liked how they made the translucent parts and that he was still able to shimmer with being able to be seen through myself.
