Why do people get so upset over inflated prices? So they want more than they can get... oh well, they likely won't get it. So what, it's no sweat off your back, right?

There is a guy that sells action figures year around at our local flea market. I stop by to check out his stuff from time to time and I don't think he has sold a single thing in 10 years. His prices are rediculous and everything has an inch layer of dust on it from sitting around for so long. If you do find something he has that you are willing to pay insane prices for your are guaranteed to get it since no collector in the area bothers to deal with him anymore.
When my friend wanted to buy some GI Joe figs from him he expected to see the guy look up the prices on a laptop or something but instead he brought out a stack of 10 year old price guides and started flipping through them until he found the highest price and that is what he quoted him.

To elaborate slightly on Shogi's post. At a thrift store near me they sell AOL free minutes discs for 3 dollars. These come free in the mail. Well, at least they did. It says free right on the damn thing, and they slap a 3 dollar price tag next to it. The shame.

As a used book dealer I run into this all the time. thrift stores know just enough about books to over price their things, Flea Market booths where i visit the same books (asome of which have been there for years). the worst is the people who thing they have found some old book worth a ton of money because they found some listing (usally in much better condition) on ebay or abebooks or something. I always make a point to not buy from those people, even if you give them a fair price, they will just think you are screwing them.

I know you do not have to buy from these people and you have other options. I just wanted to vent. It bothers me as a collector and occasional seller that people think they struck gold when they find something old. I went 2 days ago to look at a collection. The guy said $xxxOBO I looked at the stuff and found half or more were damaged and werent worth the plastic they made of. He said he checked ebay and found that they were selling for lots of money. I tried to calmly explain to him that if his items were complete and in better condition he might get more money. He said he didnt care and that if I wasnt interested I should leave. I was like WTF. I hate when people use ebay as a price guide.

I have seen this king of thing countless times. I do not buy if the price is not reasonable.
