Here is the email I just sent Toys-R-US:
Quote:
Dear Toys R Us,
I was in your Albany, GA store tonight and was aghast at some of the prices. Before Christmas the Star Wars Vintage Collection action figures were priced at $9.99. This was already high, considering Wal-Mart sells them for $6.99 and Target for $7.99. Tonight at Toys-R-Us they were marked $10.99! That is simply too much. That is price gouging and is unfair to your customers. Doing that will surely reduce the amount of customers willing to purchase from you. I collect Star Wars and GI Joe figures and so do my 4 sons. I am an active member of online collector forums, and I assure the online community warns each other about retailers that do this. I plan to warn my online friends and it looks like I will be buying my figures strictly from Target and Wal-Mart from now on as I refuse to pay a ridiculously over inflated price of $10.99 for a single action figure. That's a rip-off. Please lower your prices. Thank you, Gene Seybold Leesburg GA 31763 Toys R Us Customer Relations: 1 (800) TOYSRUS 1 (800) 869-7787 [email protected]

Best thing to do is let them know where it counts... $$$. Do not patronize them when the prices are this ridiculous.
At these prices, I won't even go in the store.

Retailers have to make up for the HUGE amount of markdowns that there taking in jan/feb. Think about all the holiday merchandise that they have to markdown 50-75% off to get rid of. They have to offset that by marking regular items up to maintain some form of profit. Walmart is taking insane markdowns this week. to make up for it, they will raie prices on regular items such as toilet paper, toothpaste etc. I have friend who is a toys mgr and he said that they marked down 700-1500 toys depending on the store. They also raised prices on 300-600 toys, some as little as 10 cents and some as high as 8 dollars.

I mentioned this over a month ago in the TRU Express thread, that Marvel Universe, Ironman 2, Star Wars(non vintage) figures were all $9.99. And now a couple of the local Target's have Marvel Universe at $8.99 and Wal-Mart has them at $8.49. So it's not just TRU hiking up prices.

That's just too much for mu and star wars. Their marvel legends and motuc/dcuc two packs are astronomical in price too.

It sucks that TRU raised their price, but why do we need to be warned. I can see what the prices are at TRU the next time I go and decide to buy it or not. It's not like they can sneak anything past anyone who is looking to buy it. Just sayin.

Those prices are too high. Normally, I'd say these things are artificial to make the sales look bigger, but they seem to be increasing across the board. I hope this trend doesn't continue in 2011.
I think 7 dollars is the most I'd reasonably pay for a 4 inch scale figure. I don't think I'll be picking up many 4 inch figures for $9+ at retail any time soon. Last edited by Uberlad; 12-28-2010 at 01:53 AM.. |
