Cheers. Good:man. I?ll be looking for land myself once I get this house paid off in a couple years. Still have a bit to go on my daughter?s college. She?s on her own though for post grad school.
Agree completely about my collection. I think I just needed to make it up to that little kid in me that never got it all (no kid ever should) and repair/replace the toys that I loved which ended up broken in the toy box. 90% of that itch has been scratched and at some point I?ll sell off what?s left because I don?t see myself carting this stuff along when I retire. I?ll probably just hold onto to any actual childhood stuff that I restored and unload and modern collection. Always a pleasure Smoke. Apologies for derailing the thread all. Back to our VC discourse.

Hell, it's refreshing to see folks are able to actually still retire and retire well-off in this country. Even better when it's a couple of folks who were able to do it with hard work, as apposed to a big fat handout from their rich parents. Love to see it. So much bad news in the news these days, hearing some good news from people is a breath of fresh air.

It's true, this nation makes it awfully hard for the middle-class to fully achieve that American Dream nowadays, and things can still go to shit quickly for me, so I take nothing for granted. I got lucky too. Lucky with good health, and with a true partner in a wife with terrific sense, fiscal smarts and investment acumen. Lucky with a series of good gigs. And in addition to a cool car, my pop left me with an unexpected 50K from the sale of his property at a time I didn't need it and could be smart with it. A lot has to do with not being into status and being a natural cheapskate too. We avoided getting into credit card debt and pissing huge sums away on things we didn't need, and we did what Biden correctly talks about as the middle-class' gateway to wealth: we used home equity to speculate a little in real estate and were both smart about it AND lucky. Like I said though, things can go south quickly.
Appreciate the kind words Beach. For me it was just 25 years of discipline, 18 still to go. 15% a came out of my paycheck each week when that was my plan max, then it was upped to 25% when the company changed plans so I upped it to 25%. Learned to live with what was left in my pay check. I think a healthy comfortable retirement is still attainable but in today?s world one has to focus on what?s really needed. I don?t drink $6 coffees. I get tea for 1$ at the cart on the corner at work. I don?t buy designer clothes, or over priced cars, I don?t have any streaming service subscriptions. Basically I live like it was 1984. One day ,I hope that reaps huge rewards. There is also a good living to still be made in America if you?re willing to get your hands dirty. Public utilities and trades are suffering from a lack of eager labor. If you?re willing to work with your hands and suffere the elements, not have a comfy chair or fridge or microwave at the office there are boat loads of money waiting for you.

i had a solution that'd never happen:
instead of selling preorders carded sell them in bags like mail away figures. it should take the cost down on the box art, material, etc. because we dont pick out the figure anyway, why do we need a card and plastic shell? or in the case of those "deluxe" figures we're getting in bigger boxes they can pair that down to a bag instead of a box 3x bigger than the stuff they have to fill it with. concerned about kids choking? poke lots of holes in the bags. put the accessories in plastic sheet wrap and taped (like they did in the deluxe boxes) or tear bags like the fortnite llamas. yeah it'll be a mess because everyone and their brother does preorders now. maybe online sales gets bagged, in store(or ordered online for store pickup like walmart/target) gets carded? but now even those are expensive $11.25 each before shipping & taxes https://hasbropulse.com/collections/...-battle-gear-1 $12.85 each before shipping & taxes https://hasbropulse.com/collections/...he-modal-nodes

Chris Cocks just arbitrarily decided to raise prices. It's not a matter if inflation or production costs. His business acumen seems in par with a school child

that's what the army builders were on Hasbro Pulse kind of
but now even those are expensive $11.25 each before shipping & taxes https://hasbropulse.com/collections/...-battle-gear-1 $12.85 each before shipping & taxes https://hasbropulse.com/collections/...he-modal-nodes im not getting it, but it's pretty ok that hasbro put the modal nodes in one box, rather than obligate people to buy friggin dan and then get a 6 pack. but that's about all i can say positively about that. the price raise is stupid. all the sets could be a plain white box like the mail away BATS were 20 some odd years ago. |
