I'd agree but I'm hard pressed to find any product on pegs or online at the big box marts. As a collector I'm just guessing that I'm trying considerably harder to find these things than the average kid or parent. I think most collectors, parents and kids are inclined to buy from big box marts out of habit but the retailers don't seem to be doing their part. How much Hasbro product are they really moving compared to Pulse? Maybe they are selling more but where is it going? Unless we have actual numbers it's all just conjecture anyway. I'd wager the only handicap that Hasbro Pulse has is a lack of awareness about it as an option from the general public. If Pulse cannot handle the volume then I'd rather see Amazon get any exclusives because Target and Walmart have been an absolute horror show. I'm not a big fan of Amazon but I'd never had any problem acquiring Star Wars or Marvel exclusives from them.
We know Pulse is the fallback position. Hasbro propositions Walmart and Target first with every SKU, they get first dibs on every character. If they don't committ then it can go to Pulse and other online retailers as a fans first online exclusive. Quote:
As a collector if I can't get these big box mart exclusives then I'll just abandon the line all together. I've canceled any preorders for any Mandolorian product on Pulse or BBTS because I can't get the other figures from Walmart, so why bother at all? I'm not obliging scalpers and I'm no longer relying on Target or Walmart to screw me over any more.
Must be a Disney trend, I felt the same way about Rebels. |

If you haven't noticed there's a bit of a pandemic going on, and it's really thrown a bag of wrenches into the gears of most industries. The lack of product right now is likely due to factories being understaffed and shipping back logs at every port. And that's on top of all the normal distribution problems collectors complain about. Unfortunately exclusives have really been targeted by speculators and bot nets designed to buy up all of the product. Wal-Mart's new system blocks something like 20 million bot purchases daily (mostly going after PS5's). It also looks like there's way more collector competition with higher unemployment.
We know Pulse is the fallback position. Hasbro propositions Walmart and Target first with every SKU, they get first dibs on every character. If they don't committ then it can go to Pulse and other online retailers as a fans first online exclusive. I do get what you're saying. I dropped GI Joe Classified because the target exclusives made getting the figures I wanted too difficult and frustrating. I'm not a 1:12 scale collector normally, and the lack of available product convinced me to not expand my collecting habit in that direction. On the other hand, abandoning a line because you can't get everything does not a collector make. The completionist mindset is a cancer. Maybe it's time to ask yourself why you ever put yourself in the position where Target or Walmart could screw you over? Must be a Disney trend, I felt the same way about Rebels. As for Walmart/Target, I guess what I was trying to say is, Why is Pulse the last option rather than the first? Why is Pulse the rear guard and not the vanguard? I don't work in the industry so I'm sure there are elements that I am overlooking but why build an exclusive platform and not use it? What advantages does keeping brick and mortar big box marts in the loop provide in this era? I think with some well placed advertisements to let the kids and parents know about Pulse as an option Hasbro could cut the ineffectual middle men out completely. Agreed about completionist mind set but it's no excuse for how badly Walmart has handled Hasbro exclusives. I'm crazy, or I'm the problem, for wanting to buy product from a retailer who is the only one authorized to sell it? I'd imagine Hasbro would want us to ALL be completionists of their product lines. I don't think that's a valid argument. I only collect (used to collect) Mando and OT figures, so there are plenty of figures that I'm happy to let go by. I don't buy Disney movie figures. When it comes to core characters of a line (like say Fire Fly for the Declassified line) it can lead to losing future sales from collectors or kids a like. Not all exclusives are just alt versions like the Mando figure. You've quit Declassified and I've quit Star Wars and never took up Declassified for the same reason. How does that help Hasbro? I feel for Declassified collectors and am very happy that I didn't bother to begin with. To your point I've avoided putting myself in that situation with that particular line. Now neither of us are collecting it, all because of Target and Walmart's ineptitude. How does that help Hasbro? I've been able to order any figure that I've wanted from Pulse, BBTS, or Amazon so far and very much enjoy shopping at their sites. I'm happy to give Hasbro my money. I just wish I could use competent sites for any figure that I decide to buy. Appreciate the discussion and 100% agree about Rebels and Disney Star Wars.

Got an email last night from Wal-Mart about the "The Child" pin saying they could not fulfill it on my previous order (already delivered a while ago) and that they're going to issue me a $10 e-giftcard soon. I never called or wrote to complain about it so it looks like they're doing this across the board.

Ha, maybe Walmart will mess up and give me another $10 gift card.
I just looked, and TVC Assault Tank commander is now selling for $125??!! Wow. Very tempted to sell my extra one.

Oh snap. I may sell of my second one as well.

If you look at sold listings, a Tank Commander sold just a couple days ago for $150 + $7 shipping. Crazy

So Walflop cancels all of the initial preorders because they added a pin to the order, for the same price. Sooooo why couldn't they just add the pin to existing orders if the price did not change? Any-who then they can't fulfill the pin portion of the orders anyway and the offer discounts/coupons for the free pins. What in the named of Zeus is going on over there? Ya know what, I don't even care any more.
