TRU Rewards Program---The Fine Print
TRU Rewards Program---"THE FINE PRINT" Okay. Recently durring discussions is was brought up by many people. Individuals noticed they have not recieved any of their precious Toy R Us reward program coupons. I realized I hadn't recieved any since summer 2009. I decided to give them a call today and review the fine print on their website. This is what I found and was confirmed by the telephone representative: When using your TRU Rewards card you do get a bonus gift certificate of $5 for every $150 you spend. Right now the promotion is to get a $10 one for ever $100 you spend. The thing is it says durring the "Rewards Period". I know many people may assume that the rewards period was a year or something similar. It's not.... So now your asking 21. What are the promotional periods associated with "R"Us Dollars? You have the opportunity to earn "R"Us Dollars during our promotional periods. Promotional periods for the year are: December 25, 2009 - January 31, 2010 - No "R"Us Dollar Earnings February 1, 2010 - April 30, 2010 - Earn "R"Us Dollars May 1, 2010 - July 31, 2010 - Earn "R"Us Dollars August 1, 2010 - October 31, 2010 - Earn "R"Us Dollars November 1, 2010 - December 24, 2010 - Earn "R"Us Dollars December 25, 2010 - January 31, 2011 - No "R"Us Dollar Earnings Please note, earning periods are subject to change. ----------------------- There is no rollover. The heavy return seasons and Holliday clearance seasons are also blacked out for rewards dollars. So the few people who have gotten these Rewards dollars, spent more on tax, shipping, and gas than the $5 they get. The only purpose of the card is to track your purchases and create a customer profile on you in order to market to you better. They send you advertisements that anybody can sign up for. They also use it as a way to make you justify what you are spending when you spend it. It reminds me of the Fred Meyer rewards program with their fuel. yeah Fred Meyer takes a loss on their fuel every time they sell it anyway. But the proffit they made off of you to get your $100 for you to save $.05 a gallon more justifies it. The thing is in Seattle their was a gentleman who had his Fred Meyer rewards card purchase history sobpoena'd by the court in a child support case. The guy didn't make much money and already gave most of his pay in childsupport. They saw he purchased non-generic items and an ocasional beer or wine. His ex's attourney built a case around it and got $200 more a month totalling $700 of his meager $24K a year job. This is why I guess you should pay cash for everything and register your rewards cards under alias' and made up phone numbers. I know I won't go out of my way to spend $150 a period at TRU, I rarely do. But I don't think I care enough to use a card someone can use against me in court which really has no concrete benifit. I'm too lit to read all of that but I got about halfway though. I love the Rewards program. I've used about $50 worth of them in the last 3 months or so. Its great and has saved me some $. We shop there all the time anyways, this is just a small way to get a little back.
Sorry if that wasn't even close to being on topic. Its been a long day. |

Coincidently, I got a couple of $5 reward coupons in the mail yesterday. 1 is good right now, and the other is good in early December. But, generally speaking I don't like any kind of rewards program, and I always decline giving my phone number when they ask.

I shop there so much and don't get any coupons. My firend signed up and gets twice as much as I do. Maybe it's because I buy so much stuff there without coupons so they don't bother. Not much of a reward if you ask me.

I didn't join to spend and rack up the rewards, just as a nice side bonus for spending money there.

if I didn't sign up I wouldn't get the random 20% off coupons. And I was completely aware of the fine print, and realized I wouldn't get any of the $5 coupons.

These are a nice perk. All in all, I've never had any issues with the reward program. It took about 3 months until I received my first set of $5 off coupons but after that, I just go print them off as soon as they are available. Last edited by JohnnyAngel77; 11-12-2010 at 01:29 AM.. |

Those aren't the rewards coupons that you print off. The rewards dollars only come in the mail. I looked at old reciepts to try and piece together my spending. They went over it with me on the phone. Apparently the only time I spent 150 plus in a period was when I purchased my xbox. The only other times I did was durring the no rewards period... in one of the non rewards periods last year I spent almost $500. I should have read the fine print. I wont change the way I shop for any program though. I guess If I get them I get them. At least I'm a 2 time platinum rewards member of the Nintendo fan club

Uh, yeah, they are rewards coupons. I opted to be able to get everything via email instead of paper mail. Trust me, I use them quite often.
