just saw a 50 page toy catalog from wal mart in the sunday paper. some good deals on star wars stuff, including an $80 at-at, which is a great deal, and $5 iron man figs, but not one pic or mention of anything gi joe.
kind of a shame that wal mart isn't showing the current joe line any love. a little support from the biggest retailer in america would be nice. |

There is no support because
1. Walmart has never really supported the brand (like undercutting the brand by 30% in 2007 so they wouldn't get stuck with anything, or the fact a significant number of stores DON'T EVEN CARRY THE LINE) 2. GI Joe is NOT associated with a new cartoon, movie, or a "big hit" like Transformers or STar Wars. Realistically, until RoC and a little at the start of Sigma Six, GI Joe really hasn't had a significant promotional push in the last 10 years.

Hopefully the new cartoon will change that some... But Maximus is right. Since the late 80's and early 90's, there really hasn't been a push to advertise toys in general. I still occasionally see TF commercials... but no love for Joe.
Was there some law passed between then and now that does not allow companies to push their toys towards kids while they watch their cartoons anymore? LOL I think if Hasbro would go back to investing money into a few cartoon network, Nick and hell Disney..(well maybe not this one. LOL) commercials that they would probably see an increase in sales. I used to love seeing those commercial.

i know wal mart will always have bigger fish to fry, but at least a mention in a 50 page toy insert would have been nice. |

Target also had a holiday toy booklet with the AT-AT for $79.99 AND they had GI Joes in the ad!
Unfortunately it was this: I like the "deals like this only come around once a year" line considering these have been rotting on shelves for a year now Last edited by Shogi; 11-07-2010 at 02:48 PM.. |
