I suck ass when it comes to TF.
Actually I'm just a very "casual" TF collector/fan. I was always really particular to the Dinobots though...and would love to add atleast Grimlock and Sludge to a shelf. So--being completely clueless in the TF verse, can anyone recomend a cool version of both characters that wont break the bank?...I'm seeing the originals for about 80-100 bucks a pop. Aren't there any more recent ones that got the 25th treatment? On a side note--Are there any cool comics that focus primarily on the Dinobots? Thanks for your help in advance! |

I used to have all the original G1 Dinobots myself except Grimlock.
In terms of Grimlock, the best one that has come out as of late was the Masterpiece one at TRU, but it is around $70 so it might be above your limit there.... Aside from that he last got a T-Rex based figure in the Transformers Animated line which resembles his G1 self with a more cartoonish design and the Classics line he got one, but it was small and looked more like a Raptor then a T-Rex. Sludge on the other hand, if you mean the brontosaurus, has received only the G1 figure. They've never made another version of him as far as I know, the same goes for the original Snarl (stegosaurus before then gave Slag, the triceratops his name). |

Yeah your in for a hunt. Sludge is a one and only.
Grimlock did have a recent figure from the Classics line that was okay and won't break the bank. |

Alright, well I just saw the masterpiece and I have to say..after I choked on dorito and had a minor stroke from viewing the price...it seems the classic is gonna be the way to go...for now.
Having said that, these are basic reissues of the originals...hence the name? ^^Is not smarter than Grimlock. |

Generation 2 re-released a couple of the characters again but did them in solid colors, grimlock was green, slugde was blue I think. You can find a set of them in good shape for a lot less than a good shape set of Generation 1's I actually have 2 of the classics character version and have been debating throwing him on ebay ( i had one in the box but the box got messed up so he was opened). If you can afford it get the masterpiece, odds are you'll spend double that (easily) for the originals, but if you want one of mine lemme know.

Three of the Dinos were re-released in Generation 2 in odd colors
Grimlock was Blue (There were a few color variants though) Slag was Green Snarl was Red Although Slag and Snarl also had variants where they switched colors None of these had their missile launchers Grimlock has had a few newer toys over the past years which are similar to his G1 look Energon Grimlock Classics Grimlock Animated Grimlock Swoop has been made twice Energon Swoop Animated Swoop Slag was also made for the Animated line but they called him Snarl Animated Snarl Last edited by Shogi; 10-09-2010 at 12:59 AM.. |

Personally I really don't feel they've ever really recaptured the feel of the original 5 Dinobots.
MP Grimlock is the best representation of Grimlock since G1 (and G2 which is the same mold). I've yet to understand is it really THAT hard to design something that actually looks like the originals but makes use of modern action figure qaulity? I mean look at the Classics Seekers mold or the Z28 mold....hell even the Sideswipe Lambo mold, or the Astrotrain, or Octane (Tankor), Cyclonus, Hot Rod all seem to have hit the mark but Classics Grimlock, while not a bad representation is a complete miss. |

I dunno man..he's sitting there with my other classics and looks great the face is spot on, my only gripe was the t-rex's head they went modern instead of 80's style, anyone still remember when they decided how T-rexs stood differantly and then it took 15 years before a toy maker got it right (thank you Jurrasic Park!)

Although after a slight bit of reasearch, the funny thing I've come to find out is I thought the name change happened in the mid-80's....apparently, the name correction happened in 1903 and it wasn't until 1975 that it was finally accepted that the "Brontosaurus" skeleton had the wrong skull and never really exsisted in the first place. Now, my question is.....If all this was fully starightened out in 1975 How is it that a child like me who was born in 1979, could live his first 6 years or so of life being told about the Brontosaurus!? |
