Rating scale of 1 to 10.
Knight Templar: 9 I predict I will own many of these. Has the best hands for holding weapons. Although I think he is the best looking of the two knights, he is also more generic, thus making him better for troop building. Norman Knight: 8 Great looking, but doesn't have the cool factor of the Templar. Hands don't hold swords well. Roman: 8.5 Very nice paint apps and detail. I can see the Roman being many people's favorite. I would like to be able to remove the helmet plume as I believe most legionnaires didn't wear one. Holds his shield well, but gladius is loose in his hand although it doesn't fall out. Samurai: 6 The helmet may be historically accurate, but it seems too big and falls off easily. I don't care for the milk mustache on his face mask. I'm sure it's a design from history, but overall I would have liked for them to produce a different look. He reminds me too much of a clown. Ninja: Not purchased Pros of the line in general: Great paint apps, incredibly detailed, solid, helmets stay on the knights and Roman better than expected. Cons: Swords a little loose in hands, knights shield straps weak(I already broke one), not very poseable below the waist. For a new line of figures, the first rattle out of the box is a solid effort. I particularly like the Templar, but they are all good quality and well above average in detail. One knock on the Roman is he doesn't have an adversary to purchase opposite him, but the Romans fought amongst themselves about as much as they fought other armies. Smalljoes is price gouging the Roman; look around for a better deal. I say buy these great looking figures and support a company that has a great idea. I can't wait to see what they'll give us in the future. |

Update: The samurai fell off my desk and the sword broke.
I'm still liking the two knight figures and the roman. Leg articulation is limited and hurts the playability of the figures, but the tradeoff is they look fantastic. |

I picked them all up, and I really love them. A few remarks:
The articulation is solid but not perfect -- ball jointed hips are sorely lacking, especially on the ninja. Still, these are pretty well articulated. I was really worried about sticky joints and breakage -- that's common with 21st Century Toys and McFarlane figures, and something that seemed a real worry here since it's also happened to me with Bravo Team figures. I was really happy that all elbows, knees, shoulders, hips, wrists, and necks were fine. I did detect the possibility of waist articulation, but it felt sticky, so I didn't push it. So for now I'll say "clean joints, no breakage" but I wish there was a waist joint, instead of "sticky waist joint, figure broke in half." It is a shame the fists are a bit open, can't always hold weapons tightly. I love the fact that the helmets are removeable (I didn't anticipate that based on early pics) and they really do come with a ton of accessories. I list that as a plus, but personally I could have done with less - not all of it can be stored on the figure itself, and that means I gotta find a place for this stuff, most of which I'll forget about in a drawer somewhere and eventually throw out. Still, it's neat in principle that they come with so many extra weapons, gear, etc. Another small disappointment -- the Osprey literature included is LAME. Osprey does really quality stuff normally, and given the bulk of the packages and things I'd seen online, I expected more. Instead of a neat booklet detailing the history of these guys, it's a little pamphlet, with a paragraph on each figure, the same in every box. And it gives names to the figures, giving a "personal" history instead of just telling us what this type of figure wore, did, fought, etc. To be fair, the packaging doesn't even mention the pamphlet, so you probably wouldn't expect more if you hadn't noticed the Osprey name and heard something was included. But I did notice, and did hear something was included, and again, when I saw these large boxes, I expected something at least SLIGHTLY more involved. The GI Joe RAH filecards are more extensive! In general, I agree with Paladin's points. I can easily see people loving the Roman figure, and the white Templar is ripe for custom paint jobs. Personally, my two favorites are the Norman knight and the Roman (sorry, Paladin, but I think the Templar is a bit bland, and his head is too small without the helmet -- plus, halberd!) The samurai I would have passed on if I weren't a completist. After the death of the 1:32 scale stuff, I don't know how long this line will last, or if Unimax even plans to do more with it -- but I'd love to see at least one more wave, if not two, of more historical military type figures.
