By POTF, do you mean the 97 FX one with light and sounds, and a Luke permanently in the cockpit? The new ones(2002-present), don't have a figure molded into the cockpit, so you can put anyone in there now. The seat folds down to reveal a hidden storage compartment. All electronics were gutted. Also, the permanent R2 droid was removed too, so you can put any droid in there that you'd like(some fit really loose though).
The Wedge one did come with a new accessory, a boarding ladder! It also came with a fully articulated Wedge and his droid. All of the 2002+ X-wings are up there in price, $40+. Honestly, I do think they are worth it though, I don't see Hasbro making an improved one for at least a couple more years, because the current X-Wing toys are great.

I have loved SW since I was a kid, and I liked the figures as a youngster, but I lost interest when Joes hit, because the articulation has always been better. But my fanboy obsessiveness keeps me from ignoring SW altogether, so I collect it the same way I collect Joes -- by character. My favs are Boba Fett, the Biker Scout, Darth Vader and stormtroopers. So I collect any and almost every version of these. However, I must say that the newer figures are awesome, and if I see something I like, just like with Joes, I get it, whether it "fits" into my collection or not. I bought the AT-At, and I've gotten into collecting "Mandalorians". I just bought my 4th Pre Vizsla tonight, and I bought another Jodo Kast the other day. But I don't think I own a single Luke Skywalker figure. That's just how I do it. I don't have the time, resources or patience to be anything near a completist with the SW brand.

Oh wow, I just looked up the Wedge Antilles Xwing on youtube. Oh yeah, that thing is massive compared to what I got lol. That is pretty damn tight! Looks much more in scale. The one I had is much much smaller, not near as long in the nose, and not nearly as detailed. I may have to look into one of these one day! Thanks for pointing it out!

I tend to steer away from the toon versions, but some seem pretty cool. I saw the pre-vizula, but again, the toons arent my style, but he looked pretty dang cool. Right now I tend to just be focusing on Hoth, and maybe later, Jabba related stuff. Those are two things I would love to work on dios with my nephews.

I love the new "vintage" Grievous figure. The detail is amazing and i can't get enough of looking at the pockets in his cape to hold fallen Jedi ( or in my case all the extra) ligtsabers

I had heard that a lot of the figures out now are repackages of some of the good figures from the last couple of years, so yeah, Im glad I got into it now while some of these 'older' figures are still available.
I skipped the prequal stuff, I just never got into it. The look and feel of the older Star Wars movies just always felt right. So with the retooling of the vintage vehicles, man, some of them are incredible from what I've seen. I saw the cloud car the other night, but didnt have the extra cash for it, but it looks outstanding. I remember seeing the Dagobah Xwing years ago, and wanted to get it, but thats when I wasnt really collecting anything, and I think it had a pretty hefty price tag. I have the Power of the Force xwing... as there quite a few differences between the PotF xwings and the newer ones? I have also seen pics of the new Jabba, and that looks great as well. Let me offer another insight: buy the Jabba. My boyfriend brought one home today and it's awesome, but in a very specific way. First of all, you can't put a picture of Jabba from the movie on the box back and then not notice that the Jabba toy you stuffed in the box is too small to be the Jabba from the movie. In the box picture the hooka comes up to the lower half of his jaw. In the toy the hooka practically towers over him. The dais is right, the pipe is right, Salacious is right, Oola is right, Jabba is wrong. The sculpt is spot-on; it's just too damn small. If you're into customs, you might be able to combine the vintage body and the new head and arms, slap on some sculpey and have a kick-ass Jabba. Otherwise, it just looks like the Jabba puppet I saw at the Smithsonian when I was a kid. It might have been the puppet from the movie, but it had no life to it. So, buy the new toy, but cram several midgets into it you really want it to look right. Last edited by Joseph; 09-04-2010 at 01:24 AM.. |

also, im not quite getting where you say "turned to something else that you didnt really want or were interested in". I thought i had made quite a point that i had collected these figures for years, but lost interest due to the lack of on and off quality of the various figures. I had been thinking of getting back into them for quite some time, but had not done so because i was spending my extra money on the joes. Now that i am not buying the joes, i wanted to try out the star wars stuff i had been eyeballing.
