I did Ebay quite a bit for a while, but it just wasn't as fun. To me though, the biggest sell for me is packaging. I don't have any idea why, I don't keep them in the package, but I do keep the packages. There is just something about buying stuff that looks exactly like it did 20+ years ago. Thats why I got hooked back into the GI Joe 25th, and probably why I got hooked back into the new vintage collection Star Wars stuff. Man those package arts are friggin trips down memory lane!

So, because your area hasn't replenished the shelves fast enough to feed your Joe hobby, you've turned to buying something else that isn't what you really want or are interested in, because? It's funny how many times I've heard the guys on this site bemoan women for buying "too many shoes" or purses or tops or whatever cliche, and then hear others talk about buying some other line because there's nothing on the shelves to buy right now. What's wrong with walking down the toy aisle and not buying anything? And don't misunderstand me; I buy Star Wars figures. I could care less what PoC or Roc or Resolute figures are on the aisle, I don't want them. I'm not trying to single you out with malice, but I hear this all the time on these sites. So many times I've heard people justify their collecting to "significant others" by espousing the virtues of not drinking, drugging or straying with whores and then comparing it to some cliche about how many pairs of shoes a woman can own. It just strikes me as a need to spend money on something, anything; just like they're resented for "doing" themselves.

Well, heres my thing. I had collected GI Joes since they started back with the 25th collection. I had started to cut back quite a bit ever since Rise of Cobra, but would get something on occasion. I eye ball the star wars stuff everytime im looking at Joe stuff, but just never jumped on it.
So yeah, you could look at it as "replacing one for another", but Im not spending any extra money than if I were still buying Joes like I was. I took it the lull in the Joe purchases gave me a chance to finally check out the figures I have been checking out for years. Plus, as stated, Im a sucker for vintage packaging which is what really helped catch my eye. And don't treat me as some hardcore collector who hits the stores every 2 days to buy the hottest new items. I hit walmart maybe twice a month, if even that. I dont go out of my way to collect other than purchasing a fig or two on line. Im just not big on the online thing, so I dont even do that much. As for "your area hasnt replenished the shelves fast enough"...they havent replenished them at all. Im not crying over it, I was just stating that my local stores don't carry much, if any at all. They narrowed the GI Joe stuff to two pegs during Rise of Cobra, now there arent any Joe pegs at all besides what is in the clearance area. I created this thread to primarily learn more about the Star Wars figs. I havent collected them in quite some time, so I figured this TOY WEB SITE would be a good place to do so. You say you aren't trying to single me out, but why do you interupt this thread to.....single me out? If I were on other pages stating "I hate when my wife/gf does this/that", I could see where you are coming...but I have not done so and Im not quite understanding the threadjacking about the way you interprut what I have wrote in this thread.

Tru has a Grevious 2 pack that is good. Has the updated articulation. Or look for the single blue carded one that has the extra head/parts with it.

Hey Reznor, I was once in the same boat and honestly, you picked the best time to get back into Star Wars. See, I meant to collect the 90's stuff, and I started minimally, but stopped. For years I regretted it because I missed out on a lot of the good vehicles, and missed out on making a good Star Wars collection.
I got back onboard with some of ROTS. What I mainly go for is articulation and sculpt. At this point, most Star Wars figures to be released, and are out now, have full(for a SW figure) articulation. Articulation was increased over time. 2008 saw a lot of well articulated figures. Not to mention, some classic vehicles were either heavily retooled, or completely redone. The old X-Wing? Don't need it. Just get the Wedge version exclusive to Target last year. It's a retooled version of the electronic version from 97, which can now seat pilot figures. No electronics but most of us don't care. Retooled editions started to be released in 2002 with a Dagobah version at TRU. Later in 2004 or so, a Red Leader version was released. In 2006, a Dagobah Luke version was released with molded swamp foliage attachments. This is the one I have and I like it. The TIE Fighter saw an exclusive release at Target last year with a well articulated TIE Fighter pilot, BIG wings, and a NEW cockpit. Has a removable ejection seat, retractable cannons, cockpit panel, joysticks and a hinge with clear plastic "window". Also this year, after years of demand, the Cloud Car returned and it is all new, and the improvements, maybe they aren't canonical but I love them. Looks better IMHO. New TIE Bomber will be released this year. TIE Interceptor is still available at TRU. At this point, all of the figures can be put into neutral stances, and are not sculpted in pre-posed positions, like some of the prequel movie figures. The new AT AT looks awesome. New Slave I at TRU will undoubtedly be inevitably repainted into a Boba ESB version later on. You picked a good time to collect Star Wars. It can only get better from here. Basically, I used to say I regretted the fact that I did not collect Star Wars much a decade ago. Now, I don't regret it at all. I am glad I waited! The versions of toys out now are way better than the ones back then. It's just way more expensive! |

The look and feel of the older Star Wars movies just always felt right. So with the retooling of the vintage vehicles, man, some of them are incredible from what I've seen. I saw the cloud car the other night, but didnt have the extra cash for it, but it looks outstanding. I remember seeing the Dagobah Xwing years ago, and wanted to get it, but thats when I wasnt really collecting anything, and I think it had a pretty hefty price tag. I have the Power of the Force xwing... as there quite a few differences between the PotF xwings and the newer ones? I have also seen pics of the new Jabba, and that looks great as well.

The Wedge one did come with a new accessory, a boarding ladder! It also came with a fully articulated Wedge and his droid. All of the 2002+ X-wings are up there in price, $40+. Honestly, I do think they are worth it though, I don't see Hasbro making an improved one for at least a couple more years, because the current X-Wing toys are great. |
