I'm sure I'm not alone but I am curious who else here has been dragged back into collecting a toy line (perhaps for only a short time) after not buying a thing for years?
Recently I got dragged back into Star Wars for I hope only a short period of time. It started when I bought the vintage Boba Fett for my wife, she loves the guy. I promised we would send away for the firing version so I needed 5 upc codes (she didn't want to open her boba). Then I went to Celebration V and bought the 4 comic packs form the first 4 marvel issues that had the characters in the old school coloring based on the comics. Loved them. This lead to getting the Vintage Vader for the upc codes and now I'm itching my trooper collecting and picked up a shock trooper, 501st legion clone, snowtrooper and original clone trooper. I'm trying to stop but just discovered the awesome 5 packs of Ralph McQuarrie designs. So tempting. So anyone else have similar tales were a single purchase or reminder of a past hobby pull them back to a toy line they had days before no interest in ever returning to? |

I stopped collecting Halo figures just before the Halo Wars series, but saw and purchased the new Halo Reach boxed set. Figures are totally cool, and seeing the other figures is making want to start up again. Almost got back into Star Wars after I bought the same Boba Fet, but I let it pass, for now...

Spawn. And on 2 different occasions. I started reading Spawn when Image first hit, I remember buying #1 off the Shelves. When the toys first came out I bought all of the first couple of series Went ape-shizzle on Ebay trying to get the stupid variants. Then, after the 3rd wave I just stopped. Go down the road a few years and the Nitro Riders came out, everyone was looking for them, and I came across them at KB toys one day. Started collecting again, dragged all of my old stuff out to display. I collected maybe 1 or 2 more new waves and then stopped again. Sold all of my stuff (basically at a wash at this point)
Skip ahead...... (whirl whirl watch time swirl) They came out with the 'Covers' series. Basically making what looked like bad ass toys out of some of the best Spawn comic covers. I started buying them all.... after about 2 months of display they all started breaking. Not even from being moved, just shit ass quality. I've vowed to never buy another Spawn again. In fact I only have one left, ever from that time.... Only reason I saved it was the coloring. If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be red, not maroon.

For me it was MOTUC.I had collected He-Man and 200X line. After it ended, I swore off getting into a Masters of the Universe again. When MOTUC started in '08, I didn't get into the line. As I started to see all cool looking updated of He-Man,Skeletor and Hordak, it peaked my interest.Once bought I Man-at-Arms, I was hooked in and have been since. It has been hard line to collect but it's definately one my favorites next to the Joes.

Nope. I have the willpower (re: not enough cash) to avoid getting dragged into toylines. I choose one and then stick with it except for the odds and ends from others (Only gotten 2 or 3 of the SW on vintage cards and able to avoid others that I want).

I'm usually pretty good at staying away from a toy line once I decide I want out. If I make rules for myself, I'm pretty good at sticking to them. My problem is not getting into a line in the first place. I told myself no new toy lines for 2010. Can't afford it. Then what did I do? I bought into the Iron Man line and Toy Story 3 line. For the Iron Man line, I tried to justify it to myself that it was just a logical sister line to Marvel Universe, so really, it's all the same thing.
