I got one yesterday, with all the accessories, its a frakkin sin not to buy this version. If they had three more I would have bought them on the spot. Yes, they are that cool.

This is by far the best Star Wars vehicle this year. If you are trying to cut back on toys this year, and only have the budget for 1 vehicle then this would be it IMO.
To add to what the others are raving about all the markings on the exterior are already painted on. The only stickers it comes with are cockpit stickers to dress it up with consoles and such. I was kicking myself for missing out on the previous releases, but now I'm glad I missed them. Exterior shots You can really tell that the scale is better from the size of the helmet. The removable access panel is held in place by the power converter module. Pretty clever. The detail that is molded in is really good. The canopy has molded in and painted padding/insulation. In this photo you can see the hole where you can store Luke's grappling gun. Some interior shots. Again the only stickers it comes with are for the inside. All the rest are printed/painted on. Some more interior
Some shots of the tow cable compartment. You are to store the slack in the compartment. One end is tied to a harpoon which can be fired with the alternate gun. There is a plastic clip/plug that the cable is threaded through. This plug snaps into the square hole on the rear. the square hole leads into the storage compartment. When you fire the harpoon the extra slack in the storage compartment feeds through the hole. Underside pic Check out the details on the front of the canopy. Those are panel lines that were left unpainted to accent them I suppose. Dack doesn't have his approach vector! He's not set! I only have Dack in there at the moment. My Luke I got a while back is in a box somewhere I need to dig it out this weekend. Edit: I almost forgot. I got this last week at Target for $19.99. I guess the price is back to $24.99 this week. Maybe there will be a sale sometime later at TRU or Walmart? To be honest I would have felt it was well worth the $24.99 had I not been able to get it at $19.99. The other good news is that Dack is really easy to find these days even though he is on a vintage card. Last edited by sharky; 08-21-2010 at 01:22 AM.. |

Sadly, I don't have pictures to accompany this mini-review, but I simply have to say that the new Snowspeeder that Hasbro has just put out in its' "Starfighter" assortment is possibly the most awesome vehicle they'll put out this year, and that includes the big AT-AT.
For starters: It's smaller than the original. Blasphemy you say? Not so! The original Snowspeeder was one of the rare examples of a vehicle that was actually oversized in its' original form (due to electronics). This new version is pretty much perfectly to scale with the figures. Next: Electronics aside, it actually retains pretty much all the features of the original, minus the "spring loaded" landing gear (still has retractable landing gear, though). Plus it adds: Moving stabilizers and a removable laser cannon actuator/panel for "repair access." Finally, and here's where Hasbro really went the extra mile in my book: The vehicle actually comes with two sets of laser cannons and two different "harpoon launchers." One set is "movie accurate" and properly in scale with no action features, the other set is slightly oversized (or greatly oversized in the case of the harpoon launcher) and have "launchers" built into them. Now, the launching laser cannons are pretty darn close to "movie accurate" as it is...close enough that it's really nice of Hasbro to include the other set. The launching harpoon does have the string attached, though it's not enough to wrap around the legs of the new AT-AT I'm sure. There's also an extra little compartment to store the string when the launcher is attached. Seriously...this thing is awesome...pretty much an improvement on the original in every way. I also picked up the Cloud Car, which is also pretty awesome, but not quite as cool as the Snowspeeder. It is, however a great lesson in how to pack "action features" into a "Classic" vehicle without them ruining the look or accuracy of the vehicle.

I was able to find my Luke Snowspeeder pilot figure. Now they're ready to take on the whole Empire themselves.
Notice the grappling gun in it's storage spot. Obviously you have to remove the grappling hook it comes with in order to store it. Actually the gappling hook is not movie accurate it's supposed to be more like a magnet. I also used a clear rubber band to fold up the carabiner end of the gun because it's kind of stiff and goes wherever it wants to. Edit: Just to express how much I like this vehicle I actually was zooming it around the room like I did as a kid.I hadn't done that in years and yeasr. I also watched The Empire Strikes back for the millionth time last night. Last edited by sharky; 08-21-2010 at 04:25 PM.. |
